Two stand out for me:

If somebody else can do it, why not me as well?

And;

That which does not kill me only makes me strongerer.

Good one from a mate of mine:- "all choices you have made in your life have got you to the point where you are now".

Measure twice, cut once.

Think first, act second.

I wish I'd listened to Mr Waits when he said "Never trust a man in a blue trench coat". I didn't and got shafted.

"noli illegitemi te carborundum" is always good advice as is "aut dure aut domum'"* which was mentioned upthread.

* a motto's no good if it's not in an obscure, dead language. Which reminds of another good one: "latin's an ancient language, as dead as dead can be. It killed the ancient Romans and now it's killing me"

But my mantra is "It's only impossible if you stop and think about it"

The man who never made a mistake never made anything

Don't complain about the results you didn't get with the work you didn't do.

Treat others in a way you expect to be treated yourself.
Don't ask others to do something that you are not prepared to do yourself.
If you feel cocky, you probably have a hole in your pocket.

'Hills are only as steep as you want them to be'

(From a free sticker with MBUK 20 years ago)

I have since discovered that the saying is absolute bollix.

This too shall pass.

Common sense isn't.

If you can't learn to do somethig well, learn to enjoy doing it badly.

The two biggest secrets to success:
1. Don't reveal all your secrets.
2.

it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission
And to go hand-in-hand with that: "Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb."

Heard this last night on a flim:

“Try to become not a man of success, but try rather to become a man of value.”
