does anyone know if a 600 is the same size as the 1000? apart from a weight diff, does the reach/saddle height etc all come up exactly the same?
I think the 600 hundred will be smaller. I think the 600 and 750 are the same bike more or less but the 1000is bigger.
Half remembered magazine reading tho.
I had a wee shot of someones 600 on sunday. felt like i could ride it forever. my own is a bit of a reach.. this is only noticeable when i get a bit overdressed for the colder weather. i feel fine moving about on it on hot days when i have little on but as soon as i have a few extra layers its not quite the same. Its mainly the extra layers around the neck so its noticeable when i lean forward but have the bulk behind\under the helmet.
I thought of getting those heli bars but they are silly money to fit to my bike and i think they deffo have to be fitted along with new hoses. My model hasnt got enough hose length to lift them enough. the ones i was thinking about were £275 and only lift the bars about an inch!
The year of bike will make a difference too, recent ( past couple of years ) the size of the litre bikes is very close to the 600's - they'll be a little bigger but not by too much. A mate has a '01 gsxr 1000 and that is smaller and more cramped than my '98 zx6r ( as a comparison, I know its not directly related to the OP's question...)
Think it will depend on the year. And like TJ says the 600 and 750 are basically the same chassis with different engines and the 1000 a different bike, although in recent times the size difference has become a lot closer.
My 2002 GSXR600 was a 'bigger' bike than my 2006 R1. I sat on an 07 600 when my mate was looking at one, and it felt very small and I'm no giant. Go and sit on them and see...
Anything built over the last 5-6yrs will be very similar in size. I've got a 08R1 and it is smaller than my 2000 ZX-6R was. I'd imagine the 600 will be slightly smaller, but not much. Go try them for size.
We could probably machine up a pair of bar lifters if you wanted. Email me if you're interested...
as said, it'll depend on the year.
I had a 03 thou and it was quite a bit bigger than my mates 750 but the more recent models are much closer in size.
The 600 and 750 are virtually the same bike/frame (and hence it makes very little sense in getting the 600 IMO). The thou is a different beast altogether and a big jump from the 750, power-wise.

+1
Once I got onto big bikes I've never seen the point of getting a smaller (cc) one.
Looking for another commuter, probably go for another 1050 Triumph - can't beat cubes.
1050 Sprint ST any good for you?
ok thanks folks. Thanks for the offer, zed. The wheels are off right now so i was planning on doing a few other little things to it over the next week so i might have a look at what could be done in the bar dept.i cant picture it right now but i seem to remember it being a bit different compared to some.maybe a completely new crown with non kawa bars would be the best starting point.
Marky, the E1 model i have is probably similar to the zx6 you had. i think its still a 2000 model but on a 2002 plate. having sat on a 2008 R1 like yours, its like a 3rd narrower in width! considering its a sports bike and not a sports tourery type of thing.. i recon the reach of the R1 would be better for longer rides (even with the lower bars and higher pegs) It goes to show that whatever you read in the mags about the pegs being high and the bars low down on many sports bikes.. they can still be comfortable if the reach is good for the rider.

That's what I was looking at, but in my local dealer while looking at s/h ST's he pointed me towards one of the new Yamaha 600 Faired ABS Diversions - that they've on for £5600 with 5 years 0%!
Certainly looks far better than the Diversions I remember, and seems to have pretty good reviews too - remapped R6 engine from a few years ago.
Just waiting on a contract agreement (50/50) before pushing the button - me thinks.
Ive fancied a triumph street triple for the past year now. I loved the position but with knowing next to nothing about bikes i put the clunky gear change down to it being brand new.. guessing that it would probably smooth out with age.
The other night i was talking to a guy that rebuilds engines and after asking him about what he thought on them.. he didnt seem that impressed with the triumphs. he said he has to rebuild some guys race engine each year and the camchain wasnt a pretty sight once removed either. he reconed compared to the guts of my zx9, the triumph build/materials are lacking.
(Mr MC Posting)
the 675 motor used in the street stiple and the daytona is infamous for using oil like a two stroke. Triumph claim the level of oil burnt is normal but theyve had a few high profile failures (like Bike magazine's long term test bike). Great bikes but I wouldnt buy a used one with any sort of mileage on it unless I was sure the previous owner had been religious in topping up the oil.
And agree that different bikes fit different people. I recently toured ireland with a bunch of mates, me on an 05R1 everyone else on VFR800s. Possibly I am more used to doing long days in the saddle than the others but I was the only person not to be suffering every evening.
