Hello
Has the MoCo damper in Rock Shox Recon's changed between 2008 - 2011?
Last week I was given some great help swapping the MoCo damper from a pair of Recon 351's to a pair of new Recon Gold R's
Ive decided to sell the 351's and so I wanted to replace the damper id just stolen to put into the Gold R's
I think that the 351's are from 2008 but I can only find a 2010 MoCo damper for sale. Ive bought one (though now I need to source the crown adjuster) but am concerned it may not be the right one hence the question.
Many thanks
not afaik
Ive just taken delivery of a "Recon 2010 MoCo Damper"
On inspection the 24mm lock nut at the top is plastic as opposed to the Metal one from the 351's and it appars to have a different fitting for the top adjuster.
Its also black and not red like the one from the 351's
Am a bit concerned its not the part I need
Black or grey ones seem to work as well as the red ones in my experience but made with less metal parts and no floodgate. (I am not sure any of the recons ever came with floodgate though so not sure whether you 'lose out' in that respect. FWIW I never use it on mine!) The other issue will be the top adjuster, on the cheaper one it just 'presses' on; you lever it off with a flat screwdriver, the more expensive one is held on with a circlip. You might find the blue lever from your recon golds fits on and stays on, otherwise best speak to tf tuned or LoCo to make sure you order the right knob.
I suppose a well-informed buyer (you're selling the fork aren't you?) will quibble about the quality of the fittings, but then they are getting a new damper in a secondhand fork.
Thank you Julianwilson
The plan is to put the damper back in to the 351 and sell them as standard.
Looking at the 2011 damper the crown adjust is fastened in place with a 2.5mm hex key.
Utterly confused ๐
My new damper came in a packet with part number 11.4015.442.020
Every SRAM reference to this part is for a damper that requires a knob held in place with a circlip
Yet the damper they have sent appears to be the one that takes a screw on (hex key) adjuster knob .... and I cant find anyone that sells such a knob kit!
This seems overly difficult, all i wanted was a damper ๐
I think that what I need is R5461010
