Appreciate this is highly subjective but what’s your go-to comfortable spd shoe.

I’ve got an old pair of wide sidis that are on their last legs and whilst I’ve liked them and they are a good performance shoe they are not the most comfortable thing I’ve ever put on my foot. And given I’m not racing I just need something for trips into the hills that I’ll enjoy wearing.

Ideally want to spend less than £100

I had a pair of old Pearl Izumi Alp X Enduro - I think - that a mate bunged me. They were incredibly comfortable. I don't know what the current equivalent is, but far and away the most comfortable mtb spd-compatible shoe I've used. Comfortable for walking in too.

Not awfully helpful but five ten impact vxi are super comfy. I don't think they make them any more!

Those Pearl Izumis are on sale a lot - £50 or so. I got a great deal on some goretex Mavic ones or I would have bought them.

My comfiest SPD shoes are Specialized Cadet ones: https://www.evanscycles.com/specialized-cadet-shoe-EV221224

Just feel like trainers - even off the bike. Used to ride to uni in them then wear them all day in lectures/labs etc. Might be a little lightweight for mountain biking, though I wear them if it's really hot.

Never found anything as comfy as old skool Spesh Tahoes.

My shimano am7’s are pretty comfy tbh. To compare to them I’ve got some cheapie shimano xc shoes, some north wave XC style mtb shoes and some shimano road shoes. Order of comfort =

AM7’s > Shimano Road Shoes > Shimano xc shoes > Northwave.

I’ve had a few pairs of Northwave shoes (these xc ones and some Typhoon road shoes) and they just don’t feel as good a fit / as comfy as Shimano.

I have 5-10’s and Adidas Terrex for flat shoes and I think the AM7’s trump those too.

For my wide feet 5-10s have displaced shimano AM-whatevers and are fabulously comfortable. If that sort of thing tickles your fancy there was a thread on here re an Adidas deal on them just the other day. I went for Hell Cat Pro at under £100 on that deal and they're about their priciest option. I think that's what I already have although they don't name the model on the label.
