Ive got through several octalink cranks/bbs on my commuting bike in the past year, always the same problem, the LH crank works itself loose. When it's happened once it keeps happening. It gets a lot of use, and not a huge amount of maintenance TBH. Any opinions on something that will last longer? It can't be too pricey as it is a commuting bike, and therefore chance of stealage high

The solution would be checking your bolts every few days and you'd save a packet.

Its a single 8mm allen head.
Takes seconds.

Sorry if thats arsy.

Got to be square taper, UN52 BB can be had for £10-15 and something like FSA Power-Pro for £30ish, old LX if you can find some maybe.

Thanks, gonna buy new this time to make sure I get maximum life out of them! My memory of square taper is the same, cranks coming off. Think I will have to check the bolts regularly.

Just put a small drop of super glue on the crank bolt threads when you install them - it'll stop them working loose but won't stop you undoing them as and when you need to.
