Whilst looking at the Halfords own brand lights in the other thread, I noticed these:

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-lights/bike-lights/moon-adj950-front-bike-light

Which seem a good price

I know they are rated at 950 but I've found in the past that one beam of light is often not as good as two, even if its more powerful....these have 2 adjustable beams and are the same price as the own brand 1500

Anyone have experience of Moon higher end lights? Are they accurate in the lumen count, I wouldn't want any less than 950

I've got a Moon light that's a few years old, it's 'only' 500lm but that at the time was a top-end light. It's excellent, still going strong, so if that's an indicator of the current build quality then that can only be a good thing.

No that would be the ADJ850

ADJ 950 is claimed at 950 for 2 hours according to Moon using supplied 2600MAH battery and 2.5 with optional 3200 MAH

I assume that's a typo, as the spec tab says 950 lumens too.

Don't know if these work the same, but I've got a Solar Storm with 2 independent lamps like that. The different power levels are achieved by running the spot on its own, the flood on it's own or both together. neither of the single beams are brilliant, but like you I've found that running both is pretty effective. That whacks the battery life though, I'd avoid a light that runs in the same way because of this, I'd need to check if I was considering these.

For £54 that's a bloody good price, got mine from Merlin a short while ago for £75 now back up to £95 I think. Not much to compare them with but do the job for me and seem well built.

Well, I just nipped down to my local halfords as they had one in stock and now its sitting charging at my desk.

First impressions are very good. Build quality seems good and there is a lot of attention to detail like the way the cables seal and the mount is well designed. Helmet mount and remote(wired) included. All comes in a useful case.

The lights power up with that 'expensive managed' look i.e they come on gradually and not 'bang!' like my cheap Aldi set which i use at the moment which is supposed to be rated at 1200. The different modes reduce both beams at the same time so not like the solar storm and there are all sorts of modes.

Obvs can't really tell how bright they are on full chat but they will certainly be brighter and last longer than the Powerdrive XL that I use on my helmet at the moment which is 475 on overdrive but only lasts an hour - I'll use these on my helmet with the Aldi cree one on the bars which should be more than enough.

winston please keep us informed as to battery run time on full, etc. I'm after a new set of lights and these look useful…

I’ve got 4 moon lights - 3 fronts plus a rear. All feel good quality and no dramas so far. The 900 ish lumen one I have is a small unit for the power and seems to last well. Mine is quite ‘spotty’ but that’s why I bought it to go on the helmet.

Running a single unit on the bars of 1600 lumens from another manufacturer as more of a flood (although right now I wouldn’t recommend hay make).

Combined night riding light is plenty.
