[#5263162]

8:15
Rose and Crown (BL0 9EG)

Rake
Tower
Mess about on the tops
Buckden Woods
Pub

The Stravisti amongst us may want to roll down to the library at the start so they can log the full horror of the first climb. 😉

We need to sort out some other riders too. Darwen, Rivi etc. 90 minutes duration with a pub at the end.

I could head up before you with the camera, to capture the looks of pure joy on peoples faces as they get to the top of the Rake

[img] [/img]

I've sussed us out a couple of decent 90 minute route options anyway

Perhaps the turbines starting from Owd Betts? Dunno. Suggestions please.

Would come but I'm pciking the in-laws up from the airport.

Starting with a ride up the rake is brutal.

Suggest a spin along the road and up from the Hare & Hounds, or go the other way along the railway line to Irwell Vale and up Robin Hoods well.

Suggestion for bigger ride.

Rammy - Irwell Vale - Fishermans - Owd Betws - Top Turbine - Through Cragg to Lee - Batter it down the red right to the bottom - back along valley down singletrack behind factory to Rawtenstall - Irwell vale - then either back along road or Robinhoods well and Buckden Woods.

Latter is prob 3-ish hours. I can get out tuesday nights from week after next if u fancy a return.

What is your point caller?

Chipps and Clover set the tone for trying to kill people with altitude sickness on the Todmorden ride last week. This is just to show our friends from the other side of the hills that we are not all big city softies.

I'm over 40 now (all own teeth) so need to warm my knees up before tackling the national hill climb championship course on a SS with a Maxxis Minion supertacky on the front.

Warm knees are for pussies! Or is that the other way around? I'm 96 you know?!

Warm knees are over rated.

This man escaped from a burning Spitfire and several POW camps and his were at room temperature.

I might be up for this if I'm not playing footy but I tend to prefer an earlier start / longer ride, so may meet you on the moor. Will let you know, Graham may be around as well but like me he thinks 8.15 is fast approaching pub'o clock .
ps I am 110 and have found the solution to warm knees- piss yourself on a regular basis [ and it keeps the flies off your butties ]

Knees! It's hips that you have to worry about at your age/s.

90 minutes, mine only lasts for 10, so that's a total of 9 stops, that's why I don't ride with you wonderful racing whippets (except binners) 😉

We're usually in the pub at 8.15 after our 'night rides' 😳

I'll see if I can make it.

Time won't change. Got stuff to do first and people have got to travel to get there.

8:15. Fixed.

It's traditional.

Despite all our efforts the only thing we killed was Binners' chain. We can have another go if you like though 😀

That's the one. Your battery is charged too mate.

I'm considering 2 routes. One of which finishes with the Steps of Doom. Anyone fancy a crack? We've not filmed anyone falling off down them for a while

Looking forward to it. I’m going to roll down to the start of the hill and do the whole thing though. Starting from halfway up is like doing Snowdon on the train or bailing out when you find that the Thai lady you’ve picked up in the bar isn’t all that you were expecting. Apparently. 😳

In for a penny etc.

Are you sure you want to arrive at the top of the first climb that broken? You nutter!

Well I won't tell all the Stravista's the time to beat up there. I shall announce it at the top, once the breathless, sweating peleton arrive up there

We're ok to use the pub car park, and Steve's the landlord's said we can shove all our bikes around the back afterwards, while we have a beer, a la the Church

If I can get within 8 minutes of The Rake KOM I'll be happy/amazed.

Nobody has created a segment Library - Tower from what I can see.

Strava…. la la la… puts fingers in ears.

Must not get addicted.

Where did you say you were starting from?

There's a white line on the road outside the entrance to the library. The finishing point is the first lamp-post past the church entrance at the top.

I suggest you don't concern yourself Googling what the record stands at. I'll let you know when you get to the top. If its any consolation, you'll probably still beat me up there and I'll be starting at the R&C.

Just to let you know chaps and chapesses that the M66 has been closed since this morning. I'd give yourself a bit of time and check the AA roadwatch before you set off. Or take the A roads for the stint to Rammy

Cracking run tonight folks! Thanks for coming over. The last descent through Bucky woods was ... Erm... Interesting! Bit slippier than anticipated. So apologies to those without lights. Probably a bit ambitious.

Thanks for that! Great loop, gorgeous sunset.

Although a sweeper through Bucky woods might have been a good idea - I thought I was going to spend the night there at one point… 😐
