[Closed] Monday Night Pub Ride – November 23rd - Avoiding Monty Don Edition

Any ideas?

Hopefully my mo-jo will have returned for next week, because last week I really couldn’t be arsed right up to the point when it was too late for me to get there. Then all of a sudden I could be arsed and I was left kicking myself as I watched something that the wife had recorded featuring Monty Don.

So… What’s the plan? Weather looks cold but dry.

I could take one out around Hebden if people want?

I've never done Hebden on a MNPR yet, so I'd be up for that, although I'm aware it's a bit of a hike for the Bolton crowd.

Ok, well I'll happily take a ride out.

8.15 at the carpark near the Old Gate?? I'm happy to meet/start earlier.

Ride - there will be a mixture of ups and downs.

Maybe do some of the more esoteric descents.

No further for me than most MNPRs so I'll do my best to shake off the CBAs and show my face.

If it makes any difference to those a further away, I'm happy to start a bit later, although obviously that means getting back later. I don't usually get to bed til 1am after a MNPR anyway so makes no real difference to me.

Hmm anything like last time (Tod ride) down the front of the pike, then the sheep trail, some of us are mortal beings especially me 🙂

There is a MNPR splinter cell ride going off Rammy way for those that can't get over to Yarkshr.

Nah, I was thinking some other things - Shropshire being one of them 🙂

Will depend on the weekends weather anyway, if it dries/freezes up we can play on some really fun things. There may or may not be crashes.

Sadly goosed my fork on Wednesday so i can't make it.

I'll probably be riding rigid...I have a 29er fork you can borrow if you want?

It's cold here. Still snow on ground - not a huge amount - so we should be ok for tomorrow.

Currently have a slightly pulled calf, but still going out.

Went out for a ride last night at 3.30 for two hours...came back and couldn't feel my hands. Ice up high, but nothing that you can't ride around/over.

Bring warm things.

3.30am? That sort of reccy-ing is a bit beyond the call of duty. Looking at the weather forecast, waterproof things will be required 🙂 Bloody shame as it'll be a near full moon tonight. Oh well, I'll be there in any case.

Who else is doing Hebden? Or is everyone bailing out to Rammy?

Rammy splinter cell will be starting at the Hare and Hounds at 8.15. We're staying on the hardpack and doing the Tour de Reservoirs. Its going to be cold and wet by the looks of the forecast, so wrap up

I tried copying and pasting all this "Banter" in to Google translate I'm still unsure what is going on tonight.

1. Hare N Hounds Ramsbottom 8:15 ?
2. Gardening with Monty don in Hebden???

Any clarification on offer for this simpleton? Cheers Gavin

(It's almost a 2hr round trip for me, I like Hebden but ain't doing that much driving to ride it in the dark in the pissing rain.)

I'll be out tonight in Hebden, if my fingers don't drop off before the end of the day. 8.15 at the old gate or the car park?

Well that's 3 of us in Hebden. I think some of the Walsden massive might be coming, although the silence on here suggests they might be hedging their weather bets 🙂

I understand the meeting point is the car park...

So far theres me, Harry and Dunc for Rammy. And the weather forecast is ... 'lively'.

Mind you... at least we're meeting at the pub 😀

Aye, the 50m trek from the car park to the pub may prove to much for some Hebden riders tonight. The ducks have been hungry of late.

Monty Don and biscuits for me I'm afraid.

Loving the display of northern hard man stoicism here 🙂

MTFU the lot the lot of you! I'm riding home from work tonight from Manc so will already be wet through and freezing so another couple of hours isn't going to make a huge amount of difference. I will however be getting the Mrs to put my MTB shoes on the aga to heat them up before I head out.

About 40 miles and over an hours drive, is what Google is saying from Southern Manchester. Is Ramsbottom still on, as it looks like my only bet?

GregMay, Thanks but no thanks. Getting there is not a concern, Home time is. "A Bridge to far" I'm afraid.

Binners, you still doing Ramsbottom?

Not tonight just got Mrs B home from hospital on nursing duties now. Take care HB gang if going down Shropshire I went down yesterday from Gadding side it was a bit muddy and icy especially near the big drop, hopefully back on MNPR next week.

Why is it called Shropshire? Something tells me the ice will be gone 🙁

I might manage a quick spin round Richmond VA while the youngest is at cubs. It's a depressing thought but the chances of me riding an actual bike in the actual real world before the end of this month are slimmer than the chances of Craig going for a pub ride without populating a spreadsheet about how many of us had crisps/nuts/pies afterwards.

As it looks like most folk are bailing out I may just stay in this Indian restaurant for longer than I planned then.
