As I left the pub on Monday there was talk of a new route out of Littleborough.

Are we still meeting at 8:15 at The Wine Press?

…and with that I hand the thread over to Binners for the artwork.

Having just checked to see when England's last game is (its Tuesday) i think i will more than likely be there.

Littleborough again sounds good - i think we know our way around there well enough now to cobble something together even if its not properly led by someone...

I'll come again to provide the comedy low speed offs. I can string something together if needs be, will just need to work out something of the right distance. The talk was of Clover(?) taking us over to Stoodley Pike though, if I remember right.

If I remember rightly Clover was proposing....

I can't make it next week, I'm afraid. I've got a photoshoot to sort out in Newcastle. Have fun!

I'm going to test the 'yeah we can get to the back of Stoodley Pike and back in two hours' pub talk with Sarah tomorrow... do folk mind bimbling the last couple of miles on the tow path?

Not at all as long as we are back at the pub before it shuts.

A race against last orders? Sounds too good to miss. I'll be there if I survive the weekend.

I'm in (assuming I survive my first training ride in about a year the day before).

I suspect it'll be me in this mode

So, we tested the route. Well, Sarah did. I got a hole in my tyre half way up the climb to the Whitehouse and discovered what utter bollocks 'if you get a proper hole in a tubeless tyre, just whip it off and put a tube in' is.

She took about 2hrs 30 mins (she did her best to mimic[s] stw 'pace' [/s]group inertia). If we have to race back for last orders we can trim that by high tailing it down the road.

For those that care, running 10km with your mountain bike hurts in all sorts of unbelievable ways.

Hmmm... is 2h30m going to be a bit long for a school night?

If it helps (and not wanting to tread on clovers toes) I can remember the route we did last year up there. Twas a belter and under 2 hrs....

*awaits comments from wittonweavers about compasses, map reading etc...

(And judging by the thumb testing session on the MTB around the park this afternoon I shall be gingerly leading from the rear on the descents 🙂 )

Okay. Okay. I'm so fed up with riding on my pissing own, I will join the MNPR shower. I think it's healthy to be comfortable in one's own company but heavens to murgatroyd I've had way too much of it. See you at th'Wine Press.

Can everybody bring half a dozen spare tubes for when Derek inevitably runs out? 🙂

Assuming riding in the Peak goes well tomorrow, I'm in for Monday.

I'm easy - we could just do last week's ride again. That descent is blinding and I can't think of a comparable one in the same radius.

If we want to go big with the Stoodley traverse and Penny steps, there's a bail option and escape pod - I live 2 mins off the route and the mighty Doblo can accommodate upto 3 people and bikes. I was thinking of leaving it up near the Shepherd's Rest on Monday just in case anyone spanners themselves on my favourite descent.

Right, off to ride the Mary T. Also need to work out how to fix my tyre otherwise I'll be on the CX bike on Monday 😯

As a one off could we not do the full route that clover has in mind and maybe sack the beer for anyone (including myself) that would need to get away pretty sheepish.

We could also try starting at 8?

Otherwise I'm ok with any other suggestions. I do remember bregante's excellently organized route from last year and I'm fairly sure that we could easily tie the ride from the motorway bridge at the top of the m62 into the downhill we did last week...

Perhaps the MNPRs could start at 19:00 so that nobody is getting home too late? Just a thought. Especially in winter - it's not much fun getting home at 23:00 with a bike and a body covered in shite.

Which effectively rules out anyone who has to put kids to bed, has to travel a greater distance or doesn't get home from work early enough.

I'll be there at 8:15.

Gorilla tape. It'll temporarily patch any hole in a tubeless tyre so you can stick a tube in it. It'd probably struggle with a proper tear though. I'll probably be there tonight, MM has left my body in a somewhat battered state but I'll probably fool myself into thinking it's a 'recovery ride' or something like that.

Early start tomorrow so I don't want to be getting into bed, wired, at midnight.

Enjoy yourselves.

The police were speed trapping up near Hollingworth Lake yesterday afternoon, so be careful up there. (Cars not MTBs).

I'll come on one of these one day, but not tonight,

Is 9 fish fingers betwixt 6 slices of bread considered excessive after a night ride?

Indeed tonight was a belter! Thanks to bregante for leading us round it was excellent!

Yes next week we will meet at the black dog in Belmont for a trip round lead mines clough, rivington, winter hill and finish up with a blast down San Marino.

Be there or be square.

Great ride! Thanks Bregante for the route and also the loan of lights - home safely. Where do I apply for the 9 fish fingers? Sounds about right.

I couldn't be arsed to cook when I got home, massively regretting it now, munchies in full effect.

Cracking ride though, looking forward to next week.

No closer to diagnosing the creaking...

Thanks guys, another great route. Half a packet of chilli peanuts for me when I got back. I really should sort out my eating habits.

Scaled I've concluded through bitter experience that the only way to cure chronic creaking is to buy a new bike 🙂

Did anyone happen to Strava the ride or make a GPX or something? Still trying to gather riding plans for this neck of the woods.
