Just discovered my big light is on the blink, so I'll have to give this a miss. I AM trying to come to another, honest.

In true sods law fashion, now the suns back out again, after last weeks soaking, and near fatally inappropriate tyre choice, I'm full of a bloody man-cold! 😥

would there be somewhere I could duck out when it gets too dark?

Do all the track criss cross each other?

Hmmm... doubling back may be an issue as it is a long thin route up and down the valley. Also there is a lot of tree cover so you'll need lights before it goes dark.

you've not got a spare light? 🙂

I was in a mad rush this morning to get my cr*p together and forgot about lights.

(also forgot my work and had to do a 10 mile detour home to collect it!?)

How's about buying a £10 3W LED Aldi/Lidl torch and zip-tying it to your bonce/lid?

Does anyone know if Lithium Ion battery powered lights are charged when you buy them?

Usually not fully. I'd look for a cheap one and stick AA's in it.

You'll get enough juice in a Lion battery between now and ride time to do you though 🙂

I'll try and bring a spare light/battery along tonight but there's a very good reason it's a spare!

Can I peel off anywhere say 9.20ish and raceback to the pub area before the wolves knock me over?

Yep. Perfect conditions tonight. Cheers for leading HtS.

Next week - a return to Hollingworth Lake with a corker of a descent planned (might have to do that bit in the light though 😈 )

Yo - I'll be back for not that one, not the one after but the one after that.

Can I respectfully suggest another MNPR in Littleborough direction on that date? I'm bummed out I've had to miss these 4!

Happy pedaling guys 🙂

Sam

PS Did hora make it?

Dragging myself out of bed at 5.30 wasn't so ace. Had the worst night's sleep, woke up at 4.30 thinking "oh, it must be time to get up". arse!

Roll on next Monday's bike ride! 🙂

Anyone else covered in itchy red blisters on their left side this morning?

I assume that I rode through something poisonous (again). If not I will have to burn the mattress (again).

Jon - if you're after lights these are a good option

You'll get them delivered quicker than cheapo lights, and Smudge (of this parish) provides excellent customer service*

* awaits being told I'm wrong

My cheapo Chinese ones have so far cost me

£26 for the initial set + 5 weeks delivery
£10 for a new charger
£35 for a new battery

Next time I’ll be buying from Smudge. A few of the chaps have the V2 I think. Not heard of any complaints.

I have the MTB Batteries V2 light. I've never required anything else, and it lasts about 3 hours on full power.

If I was buying now I'd probably spend the bit extra to get the Lumenator though.

Yes. Light is ace. Batteries are shite (well, mine were). Mine lasted about 5 rides then stopped charging.

Oredered a replacement from Torchy The Battery Boy off ebay.

I've ordered a new Solarstorm off eBay yesterday, they now come with an "uprated" (8800 mah off the top of my head) battery in a silicone waterproof case, just as an FYI.

The seller was also making a fuss in the listing as to how to identify a genuine Solarstorm light, so I think awareness is growing and it's easier to spot the decent ones now. This will be my third one and I'm yet to have a problem of any sort.

Mentioned the possibility of going south the other night, was thinking something like this

General source of amusement: the pub (the fox) it at the top of the last descent, we could start at the Ring o' bells but there's a chance that we'd run in to that there NBT and it adds another few miles on. We could tack on a blast down the canal lock gate drops and all + drop the hayfield loop for a slightly less brutal elevation profile.

It's a bit up and down, nothing too nadgery compared to the 'disappear down the side of the canal' line this Monday. Anyway, just putting it out there as an option, I've really been enjoying these rides!

Edit: That made more sense in my head

I'd be up for that scaled as I'm further south than most anyway. The nbt risk factor should be fairly low on a Monday as apparently he has netball practice 🙂
