Doing a reccie tonight. But it'll revolve around Quarrymans Killer Loop around Holcombe Hill. Something a bit different. You'll be seeing the tower a few times. A lot of climbing. But 3 brilliant descents. We'll add in a forth to get us back to the pub

"climbing up on holcombe hill
we are going to need our lights
my lungs they went oof oof oof
son, he said, grab your bike we're going to the pub"

I'm unsure yet, need to check childcare and also waiting on a new cassette and chain because I managed to shear a ratio off my cassette on the way into work this morning...

If I only could, I'd be cycling up that hill.
If I only could, I'd be cycling up that hill.

It doesn’t hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know that it doesn’t hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I’m making?
You, it's you and me.

And if I only could,
I’d make a deal with Jase,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be cycling up that road,
Be cycling up that hill,
Be carrying up that building.
If I only could, oh...

You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware Im tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the bikes we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It’s you and me won’t be unhappy.

And if I only could,
I’d make a deal with Chipps,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be cycling up that road,
Be cycling up that hill,
Be carrying up that building,
Say, if I only could, oh...

If I only could
Be cycling up that hill
With no problems...

If I only could, I'd be wheezing up that hill.
If I only could, I'd be pushing up that hill.

Oh bugger I’ve got a puncture.

Theres a very good reason every piece of 'real' work I do gets proof-read 😀

If you ever feel like losing the will to live, ask me to explain my theory of why designers can't spell. Its fascinating.

Binners, how did the recce go? Lots of up-diddly-up-up and down-diddly-down-down?

Check out me Strava man! It went very well. I can safely assert that there is nothing remotely flat at all. Its very, very up-diddly-up-up, or very down-diddly-down-down. An absolute belter though

Very enjoyable ride tonight! Not very long but had some tough uphills and great descents - real good fun! It also meant that we had a bit more time to have a pint and a chat which was very enjoyable also!

Add to that an absence of mechanicals and it all added up to a top evening!

Ta!

Top run tonight chaps! The Trails have dried out lovely. It's always good watching that many sets of lights coming down a descent.

Full marks for Harry for having a full on moment, after ignoring the warning 'there's a bit of a V down there' and somehow managing to stay upright 😀

Sat in a pub in Affetside on Sunday looking across at Holcombe Hill and Turbines above Edenfield thinking I really ought to make an effort to explore. Anybody have a map showing the loops mentioned on various threads that they would care to share?

Ta.

Always happy to share routes, or show anyone around. Theres some great stuff over here. Like most places, a lot of the stuff we rode last night, some great descents, you could ride straight past and not know they were there. You could do worse than tagging along next Monday. The plan is to take advantage of the bank holiday, and start off earlier.

We'll be starting in Rammy and doing the Tower, Bucky woods, Irwell Vale, up to Edenfield, Coal Road, Waughs Well, lap of Cragg, then Owd Betts and back down to the Brewery for a pint (or 3)

Keep your eyes open for the usual Monday Night Pub Ride thread posted up later in the week, for start time and location

Last Night's "Epic"

http://www.strava.com/activities/130312088

I wouldn't contemplate either of the second two descents in daylight. Perhaps I should get myself a pair of Joo Janta 200s .

With regard to next Monday - can we agree a time sooner rather than later so that i can safeguard the times against some form of DIY or other wife induced manner of spending the bank holiday?!

I think 6 had been provisionally mentioned from the Irwell Works Brewery. Thats a couple of hours of daylight, then probably finishing as it goes dark, for a few ales.

So the good news is that you'll still be able to…..

nice ride last night. Every time I manage to show up to a Monday night pub ride I realise how much I miss out on when I can't make it.
last night's highlight was my arse-twitching almost-over-the-bars moment going down that really steep bit.

Loved watching that many night lights snaking their way down the hill like a massive slow firework.

The view from the top was pretty special too.

My favourite bit of night riding is stopping to look around every now and again, that and trying to kill myself following terrahawk as he tries to kill himself.
