[Closed] Modifying a non-shifting SRAM brake lever for a dropper?

[#12195780]

My wife has just bought a new gravel bike, before we bought it we knew the silly 50cm wide drop bars would need changing (they even fit them to the smallest 50cm frame!)

The dropper is currently a separate lever that can only be reached whilst on the drops, can I retrofit a paddle to the Apex left hand brake (no shifter as its 1x) or do I need to start with a brake lever with the 2x shift gubbins, or a specific dropper compatible lever?

As I've got to transfer everything onto another set of bars and retape them, I'd rather do it all at once if its possible.

Thanks for any help.

Looked into this on my last gravel bike, only real option is to either buy a 1x dropper specific shifter or a front shifter and butcher the internals. Both expensive, 1 also a faff.

Latest bike I’ve fitted a OneUp dropper and drop bar specific remote, works really well, is neat and tucked is under the sti. Only ever need to access it while on the drops, not sure why youd want to while on the top of the bars tbf.

What was the issue with the bars out of interest?

Thanks, after a failed Google I suspected that would be the answer. I do want to replace the hoses and outers as it's come with a bunch of those annoying inline connectors which are rattling around and they are all a bit long, which will get worse with bars that are 8cm narrower. So if that's not too expensive a bleed is on the cards anyway so I might see how much the brand new 1x shifter is worth to sell.

The existing bars are just silly wide, mine are 42cm with a small flair, briefly considered swapping mine for her 50cm set but I don't think I want drop bars that wide either!
