After totally wrecking the rear rim on my four year old Croix de Fer, by riding it for 10 miles without a tyre ๐Ÿ˜ณ , I need a replacement.
The bike is used for a mixed bag of road, off-road and will be used for some touring in a few weeks. I rotate between 35mm cx tyres and 25mm 'tough' road tyres.
As the wheel is pretty old I reckon I may as we'll replace the whole wheel.

So far, this is the best I can come up with http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-deore-mavic-a119-touring-wheel-68397.html

Any other suggestions? Cheap would be good as I also need to buy panniers, a rack and other tourey stuff.

Cheers.

Planet X A57

Something with a shimano hub, 32 J bend spokes and a half decent rim?

Look at Merlin, Ribble, Planet X and the various sites that have sales on at the minute.

Cheers, but it needs to be a disc hub on the Croix de fer. I should have said in the original post.

How about a 32h Open Pro rim on a XT hub?

I'd go with the option you've mentioned, to be honest - I have those rims on my pompetamine, with XT hub up front and WTB single speed on the back. They've been flawless so far, and they get a lot of use with heavy loads more often that not. Can't go wrong, really.

Cheers for the advice everyone. As much as I would like some of the the more expensive ones mentioned I'm gonna have to go cheap for the moment.

But surely it must match the front one!

Oh, and my admiration of Aaron Gwin has gone up, riding on just a rim is scary.
