I've been running FSA K-force brakes again this summer and I do really like them.
Just switching some FSA's onto my Spark in place of XTR's but it turns out that the outboard side of the FSA caliper is much wider than Shimano meaning that the caliper doesn't actually fit inside the rear triangle.

So, I'm wondering about swapping an XTR trail caliper onto the FSA lever and hose.

Both are mineral oil. I have no idea what kind of differences the two systems have as far as volume of oil pushed in the lever and in the caliper.

Guide Ben had great success swapping Magura 4pot calipers on shimano levers so evidently theres some scope for this kind of fettling.

Any thoughts before I get covered in oil trying?

Only real variables once DOT is out if the way is hydraulic ratio and possible oil additives/seal reactions.

Officially, Shimano oil and Magura seals don’t get on.  Many ignore this and use Shimano oil in Magura  brakes as it’s much cheaper and easier to come by in the UK. But then, some happily run baby oil in their Shimano brakes... 🤯

Off the bat, it will work. You may find one lever is sharper than the other and you probably want to keep a closer than normal eye for leaks around seals over the longer term but otherwise crack on!
