[#2282434]

I've completely shagged the pad retaining pin on my M775 rear caliper. I don't fancy shelling out 50 quid for a new one just now. Can I replace it with SLX or Deore with the existing XT levers?

i know a few people that have mixed and matched levers and calipers to suit what they want, as long as you have the correct fittings (banjo, straight etc) then i don't think there should be a problem.

I asked a similar question and apparently yes ALL shimano levers/brakes are compatible.

Except possibly new xtr, I think I read somewhere.

If you've mashed the pad retaining pin, then just use a split pin instead. The current Deore (and possibly SLX) come with them instead of a threaded pin. Works just as well.

The problem is removing the mashed remains of the existing pin first. I tried sawing a notch with a hacksaw blade but putting pressure on it with a screwdriver bent it some more, so then I reied drilling it but my drill bit was lame. I'll get there in the end and then indeed I'm off to Halfords for a pack of split pins ๐Ÿ™‚ Otherwise it'll be a Deore caliper for the meantime

I take it the pin had seized in the threads?
What about destroying the pads to leave just the pin in the caliper and then getting some mole grips on the pin's shaft and undoing it? Might be worth putting a bit of heat on the threaded bit of the caliper to expand it a touch?

Failing that the M595 calipers on CRC take the same pads, are post mount and have the same fitting on the hose.

yep its fine, I've been running XTR cllipers and XT levers from the days when XTR only came in dual controll.

Tanks for the replies guys. Attacked them one more time with a larger array of tools at my parents house and we got the pin free ๐Ÿ™‚ I'll be replacing both the front and rears with split pins from now on incase that happens again.

Best way to avoid is to put a little bit of coppaslip or similar on the pin threads.
