I met her in a pub in Fort William, she's chatty, down to earth and quick witted. Was a fan before I met her and after seeing the road her life took and an apparent turnaround I have even more admiration ๐
She's fantastic, one of the great characters of the sport, saw her in Fort Bill years ago too but was too shy to say hi. Think she is riding a rented bike for this race!
She swears a quite a bit..
seems to be compulsory for DH, ratboy got a few f words into the live Red Bull stream last weekend
**** yeah!
Great misogyny there snorkelsucker.
The interview in dirt explained a fair bit of her situation. I hope she does well.
In June 2009, Giove was arrested in Wilton, New York on charges of conspiring to possess and distribute 384 pounds of marijuana. Giove pled guilty to the charges.[2] On November 23, 2011, she was sentenced to the time served, six months of home detention and five years of supervised release.[
I forgot about her. That was remarkably lenient.
It's alright, it was just weed- not something really nasty like tobacco
i don't care either way, i was just putting up an opposition to the fawning ๐
she's probably just looking for a payday
It's alright, it was just weed- not something really nasty like tobacco
Yeah, 'cos weed is so innocuous..... ๐

She's been supplied with a Tues by YT
she's probably just looking for a payday
Or her wife has terminal cancer and her dying wish is to see Missy race a world cup one last time.
she's probably just looking for a payday
If that's the case then she'd be better going back to selling some weed than battling for a middle of the pack placing at a World Cup race.
The lady definitely has style:
From yesterday's practice:

Josh and her are a match made in heaven:

Edit: Crash looks pretty full-on
No more mummified piranha?

I'm guessing you're Mr Lebowski, mrlebowski, not The Dude?

Hope she qualifies for the main event. Would be great to see her race.
Before my time but read up on her. Looks like she can still send it!
Seems cool.
Hope we get to see a race run but they only show the last 10? or so women riders so probably wont.
Qualified 17th!!
she's still got it then. 8)
Love that comment from Josh Bryceland,
"I've brought me mum" ๐
Go girl! ๐
She is what she is, arrrrrrrrrrrrrsum.
Was never her or Palmers biggest fans but credit were it's due, that's some effort
+1 duncancallum
You just knew her and ratboy would be like moths to a flame.
Race run looked pretty good apart from the obvious case early on.
Great to see some footage on the live coverage!
Jeezo. I remember Missy from the telly when I was wee, and while it was impressive enough seeing a 43yr old woman riding like that, I didn't know she was doing it for her wife.
"Unfortunately, my girl got cancer. You know that's a f*cking scary thing. It's not a small situation and we'll get through it. We kinda went through some things that maybe she'd like to do in life, you know, and one was to see me race a World Cup. I was like, 'really?' I was like, 'OK!'"
;_;
Is her race run up anywhere? Or is it in the full rerun? I missed it live
She was something like 35 seconds off the winning time. I'm no race officionado, but isn't that like a geolgoical epoch behind in DH race terms?
35 secs is fairly normal in women's DH. There's a huge gap between the very good but also rans and the top ten podium chasers.
There was a crash too, though, and she was already carrying an injury from her crash during qualifying (or was it pratice?).
Her run starts at about 16.15 in the replay.
@Northwind - They didn't show the full run. Just parts, should be up on the replay though. She was pretty loose!!
Cool to see!
She was never going to trouble the podium but on a borrowed bike and no training I think she did well. Also consider Rachel Atherton won by almost 10 compared to 2nd place.
The link is here.
Missy is shown at 16:10

meh, rachael was 10s ahead of 2nd place !
and Missy clocked the 3rd highest speed of the day 58kph, ive never been that fast on the road let alone on a DH course
sounds like shes still got the skills, just not the fitness, at 43 and 10+ years off the bike shes amazeballs imho
It is off the pace but it would be showing promise for a newcomer. How many of us could have done a dh run only 35s slower then Rachel?
Cheers guys. And +1 Kimbers. If she'd gone back at it full tilt, trained for a year, learned the course, done a bunch of warmup races, got a full on deal and a pro level bike (1) and taken the time to learn it and set it up (2), then it'd be a poor performance. But as she did it, it's basically preposterous, if it was a film you'd say it's too far fetched. Cool runnings!
(1 The YT is a great bike but hers isn't even the top consumer spec- it's an almost-standard, 3500 euro CF Comp)
(2 she got the bike the night before practice.)
I thought it was PR / Payday / cancer related emotional blackmail to get signed on. After seeing the run I think whatever the motives, for a middle age lady who rarely rides, SHE FlippING PINNED IT. MISSILE STOKE IS AT 11.
Right youngsters (for there must be a few on this thread) Chair lifts are the new stair lifts.
MG is the same age as myself - and what I like is that however she got the shit together to do it she did it - and not in some game levelling vets category.
I kind of Fancy her. I said it.
I know Im barking up the wrong tree with that one!
She's great, the whole comeback thing and her "style" is putting a smile on my face.
There was one double-jump that I thought she cleaned more smoothly than any other rider I watched.
I ain't watched the Vid but for sure it's great to see her back on a course.
We all know her history, but to come back from a totally different place to return to a passion and do well? Thats got to be a damn fine thing IMO.
Will she do it again? Yo know what I hope not. I hope this is just a small part of her reinventing herself and gaining some confidence in knowing she realy does still have "it"
Damn fine.
๐
Never liked her.bad attitude foul mouthed drug pushing grass.she needs to be carful as once all the drug Lords are released after she grassed them up she'll be in trouble. 1m in cash and enough smoke to keep green peace smashed for a decade and she got off on house arrest followed by a new York state sit in. She openly admitted to grassing shame she can't back that big mouth of hers up.
LOL

"Drug trafficking can lead you downhill fast. From championship mountain biking to street level drug dealing, the only reason people turn to drug trafficking is to make a profit from the sale of illicit narcotics. DEA and our law enforcement partners successfully put the brakes on this drug trafficking organization and put them out of business."
Bet someone spent some time on that...
