Seems such a tragic waste of talent and marketing opportunity.

I maybe got more than that. Her wife is dying, she has not denied what she did in the past, she seems to have found a way to find strength to deal with what awaits her pretty soon. Marketing may not be her main concern right now.

Interesting to catch up with the Missy story. Didn’t realise the criminal activity was such big time stuff! Shame, but as the other interviewee said, MTB was going out of fashion, so she was looking for the fast buck. Totally disagree with Trimix’s assessment.

It's sad that all that talent got wasted on crime.

And it's sad her wife is dying.

There's still time for a happier ending though. She's still in the prime of life.

It's not even a crime any more in California.

Shame she had to go to prison for a herb that's no longer illegal where she lives.

Hmm, well, I didn't quite understand the full details of the crimes she was involved in but there were gold bars and millions of dollars involved, so pretty sure it's not as simple as 'she'd be ok to do that now'!

I wouldn't say it's been wasted as such. Yes she was locked up and yes that's going to go against her in the mainstream (as she said) but that's not necessarily a deal breaker. I'm pretty sure if she wanted a way back in she would be more than capable of finding one.

Back in to what?

Not racing and winning WCs. I love Missy but she's 46 now, hasn't raced professionally for 15 years and couldn't hold a candle to ACC on track back then nevermind against today's fast girls.

Who else has been pronouncing Missy's surname wrong all these years?

I've often thought it must be hard doing any of these races. Even to get in the top 20 you probably have to train so hard you cant hold down a normal job but we hardly remember who came second in last years world cup, let alone first.

So you train your nuts off for what ? Pretty much 99.9% of those competing will not win, probably 98% wont get paid much and 97% will get paid bugger all.

We only hear about the winners or those worth a story. I was at the DH / XC race in France earlier in the year. Lots of the big teams there with all the trucks / mechanics / physios etc. But the field full of camper vans and tents was larger. Those guys and girls didn't even get a mention, but they probably rode and trained just as hard.

Me too. I always said Giove like it rhymed with stove. Not "G Oh Vee" as they seem to be saying here.

Trafficking is still illegal plus she was taking it from CA to NY where she was arrested.

Anyway - "wasted talent" - wasn't wasted on crime ffs - she crashed and had a brain injury that forced her to retire.

OK drive and passion then.

There is obviously a lot more to her than the talent to ride a bike faster than other people.

When I saw the video title I thought it was going to be a video of a MTBer outrunning fake cops with dirt bikes and baja buggies down some amazing trails and through south american slums while carrying few kg of (fake) weed on her back.

Then saw the comments and realised I had the very wrong end of the stick...will watch it later as it looks like something to pay attention to rather than have on in the corner of the screen while working.

She finished racing long before she got busted.

Must admit I didn't know it was such a big bust or much about it though.

Nobody was really holding a candle to ACC, that's a bit of an unfair comparison considering she dominated for as long as she did. But that aside, as epicyclo said there's more than just racing at WC level.

Well considering nobody was matching ACC's streak I'd call it unfair, especially with a World Championship (and 3 third places), 2 overall World Cup season wins, 4 seconds, 2 thirds and 14 NORBA titles. Hardly an also ran.

Not in the women's field.
A top 15 is like a minute back on most 4 minute tracks.
If the girls coming in in 20th are training they're doing it all wrong.

Do you always enjoy shitting all over and belittling folks achievements, or just when it comes to folk riding bikes?

Agree it's an interesting video. But after all that, to me at least, it seems she's got her priorities just about spot on now. Not sure she'd care for a holdall of stolen money. However rough what she's going through now must be, she certainly seems to have things in the right order now. Respect to her for that - probably would have been much easier for things to turn out very differently after a conviction for such a big haul of weed.

Thanks for posting. She’s a legend in my book. Always seems to have marched to the beat of her own drum which is more than most of us can say. I wish she’d got away with it. Here’s hoping the Missile and her wife have a good future.

Missy was cool as hell when I started riding in the late 90’s. The old Cannondale team was the best thing ever as far as I was concerned.

That film was genuinely interesting and balanced. Seems like she’s sorted her shit out after getting busted.

We need a decent Hollywood movie of this. With Ruby Rose in the lead role.

She'd be better cast in Tara Llanes role

No, that's belittling folks achievements. I'd be interested to see where you came at a World Cup with no training. Or with, that would probably be equally as rewarding.

a hell of a lot higher up than 20th in the Womens. (without training, infact without having ridden DH for 6 months)

Kinda my point
