I've stupidly lost the little metal retainer thingy on my juicy 5's that keeps the pads in place. I'm supposed to be riding tonight, is there anything I can bodge this with to make the pads stay in place?

I've spoken to LBS (who I've visiting at lunchtime) and they reckon Clarks pads don't need this little clip??

erm.

I wouldn't risk it if you can't find a replacement. I forgot to put the split pin into my Julies ages ago and lost my pads all of a sudden on a ride. It was interesting, although luckily it only happened on some fairly level singletrack. Had it been downhill, it might have been a bit lame.

What retainer are you missing? Front or rear? If it's the rear, I'd be tempted to take the front one out to use in the rear & take the front off.
But depends where you ride I guess & whether you can geret away with only one brake. At least then, you'll know what your braking capability is, rather than losing it all of a sudden.

the little metal silver thing? If they're the same as my juicy 3s, theres a bevel on the back of the pad itself that keeps them located - so in theory you don't need the retaining clip in there. I've run mine without this clip for well over a year now with no problems, front and rear.

Oh. Mine fell out, I couldn't see what it was for and on inspection of my other pair they didn't have one either, so I didn't worry. I have been dicing with death for months. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Do you mean the spring that keeps the pads apart or the clip that fits in the brake at the back?

If its the clip then I don't have them on any of my bikes that run Juicy's. They made pad replacement an even bigger PITA.

If it's the spring that separates the pads then you aren't gonna be riding tonight.

Might take mine off my 7s then. One of them at least is bent, they are a pain to get on and off (I use a small screwdriver) and don't work very well with Superstar pads.

I'm not even sure the pads could fall out with the wheel in, they have to move into the centre quite a way to clear the piston, with the rotor in there I don't think there is enough clearance (coupled with the spring which pushes them back onto the pistons anyway).

I struggle to get the pads out of Juicy's even without a wheel in the frame, so I would be 'very surprised' if they fell out while riding.

They hold the pads in while the disc isn't between them - while the disc is in place they can't move forward enough to slip off the pins in the middle of the pistons. Probably
