I'm getting an old cyclo cross bike back off the road, mainly for commuting not for racing.
I'm thinking of getting some mini vs on it instead of fiddling about with cantis. To use with shimano sti. is this a good/bad idea?
Any recommendations if it's a good idea?
As I'm too cack handed to set up canti's well I went down this route, on my cross bike. Textro's of some description I can't recall the model. They work well and less faff than the canr's.
As there is no cable barrel adjuster on STi's or the mini vee's you need some of these as well http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BSTKCGP90D/tektro-cable-guide-pipe-90-degree
I went with cheapo tektros on mine (with 10 speed 105), they were great tbh- something like £6 worth of brake, original pads, and an inline barrel adjuster. Better than any posh cantis I've ever tried, and mud clearance was still good (not as good as cantis but still as good as the frame)
Get that adjustable barrel along with your brakes from planet x... 13 quid for a whole bikes worth, silly cheap.
