My 13 yo Daughter is looking to take a step up from the go-ride DH Series.
Come across the MIJ series down by FoD.
Anyone done this? (Guessing @weeksy / weeksy Jr has some experience?).
From what I can see it looks decent.
Would be going on the Sunday's and not camping, so early start to ensure practice is done.
Yeah we've done a fair few, both me and him.
The tracks are all over the Enduro side, so Elephant Man, Y2K, Seth's Corners.
Organisation is good. They'll sometimes have a burger van, coffee van.
You can semi uplift the kid on the road if preferred, it's a yukky climb back up
Only downside really is numbers of entrants which they sometimes struggle with. But it's a supply and demand thing as always.
As with all DH, it's very friendly in the field, it'll be ace.
We're likely to enter some just for fun, both me and him. He'll be on podium, I'll be last
It's 10 mins and to the middlesish fire road. It's up a push up track that's not entirely friendly. It's all part of grass roots DH racing though.
Practice is long at 3+ hours, so you get plenty of runs in. Tracks 1min to 1.30 depending on speed of rider.
Trailforks says 77m elevation for elephant man and 102m for Y2K
LOL someone else from here said that about an Enduro race once.... He then proceeded to beat me too 😀
In my defence i'm not always last.... but often.
However, i just do it because i love riding bikes and the atmosphere in a race is something 'different', the tape, the crowds, the heckling, it's ace fun. The MIJ series for him is just a day out rather than a serious race, so even though he'll be pushing on, it's a bit more laid back for him. That potentially means it frees me up to race as i don't like racing when he's racing due to issues, mechanicals, problems. Whilst they're uncommon, i'd rather not risk it sometimes.
