Thinking of heading a bit further from the M4 than usual this weekend. Any recommendations for some nice riding a few hours from Bristol?

Depends what type of riding and how far you want to go.

Brechfa (although not Mid-Wales) - Trail centre
Doethie Valley - Natural singletrack loop
Elan Valley - Varried natural riding
Nant y Arain - Trail centre with natural feel

Rhayader. There's some great riding to be had there.
