Friends got an old bike they want rid of. Everything original but the rear shifter doesn't work properly.

Anyone think it is worth selling/giving away or just take it down the tip?

selling it would probably be a lot of hassle for little money... any local bike charities you could donate to? alternatively Evans are doing a trade-in deal

My bet is the rear shifter just needs flushing out with GT85 and will function fine. I wouldn't scrap it, I could make money out of it...!

My first proper MTB was a Spesh Hardrock Computer, in silver black and red. Decent frame to be honest, why not fix it's most problematic fault, clean it up and give it to someone who fits it?

PP +1

Great commuter/town bike at the very least - put it on gumtree if you don't want it.

Don't skip it! There's plenty of pro-cycling not-for-profits like this one that would love it I'm sure: http://www.recyclebikes.co.uk/

Won't skip it then. Try to persuade them to give it to http://www.newforestbikeproject.org/

Front shifter is definitely the fault, half of it is on the garage floor

Yeah find someone who is buying a bike and give it in to Evans, goes to charity and someone gets some money off.

We had one as paperound bike for a couple of years, then a donated GT singlespeed.

Give it to someone free.

What size is it WCA? Got a workmate who's after a cheap bike to commute on, if it's a smaller size may be ideal.
