[#920405]

Me and my mate have the same bike and experienced a bit of weird problem today at Llandegla.

Several people took it upon themselves to tell us, without solicitation, that Metas crack. By the fourth time it started to get tedious.

It was like they thought we had never seen the Interweb or something.

Quite odd.

100% of the people I know with Meta's have had no failures. So they're fine ๐Ÿ™‚

I only know 1 person with a meta and his cracked but he still rate it as a bike. I use to get similar when I rode a Cannondale. I just play innocent and ask how many they have personally seen broken.

I've got no problems with the bike, in fact it's superb. It makes you want to ride it.

Just found it odd, people randomly quoting the net at us...

The only problem I have with mine is the Rear skewer undoing itself or if not that the bearing cones adjusting themseves out.

Since I put a dual lever skewer on, that has stayed sound but I have still had the locknuts coming loose , (even though they were done up f-tight ) Think it is down to the twisting action of that long swingarm and my 95kg/ lots of braking! (or pushing on the pedals)

one chap suggests that the only way he could fix his was to fit pro 2 and maxle.

the bike is ace, mind you ๐Ÿ™‚

explain that that the only crack you've seen recently is their mum's, then exit with the superior haste that only the Meta's Contact System can deliver

I wouldn't bother giving it too much thought, really. Never had a problem with my old 08 frame, but I cracked two 2009s. I have a 2010 coming as a replacement soon for the last one I cracked, it appears to have some tubing and design changes, hopefully the problems are all sorted.

Madison have been great in all the warranty claims too.

I agree it's a bit odd that people feel the need to point it out to you on a ride though.

Am I missing something - do Cotic's have a rep for cracking?
I have a Meta and was considering a Soul as a stablemate...

I was riding with a mate recently, and was pointing out to him on his Meta 5.5 where my (3rd) Meta 5.5 has cracked, when I spotted that his was cracked as well. Hilarity ensued.

I hope the 2010s are better, they are lovely to ride.

Well, at least he was your mate and not some punter you just bumped into ๐Ÿ™„

trail centre and metas attrack those sorts of people - i find it difficult to get round any of the south wales centre without people chasing me to tell me either how my meta 'is the best 5" trail bike availble, super stiff and awesome angles", how the "change in angles aren't as good as the previous year", how the "back end isn't very stiff and it's a bit heavy for the type of bike" or how they snap.

all depends what mbr are saying!

I get the same problem with my Scott Genius. It's just people making conversation.

I can't believe anyone with a cracked bike replaces it with another one the same.

johnnres,

thats called a "warranty" claim. Commencal rarely supply another brands bike in that situation......

I know of lots of broken metas (at least 5 personally) and I don't know of any broken (insert other bike brand here) - go figure

they have had manufacturing issues, that is a fact, whatever anyone says.
meta owners, get over it, everyone else, get something new to talk about, perhaps how great the zesty is (latest review in DIRT places it above the orange 5 - trail bike of the year my arse)

not sure, but it seems to be something druidh keeps throwing in, of it's based on fact or some gripe with cotic who knows?

Every trail bike Dirt reviews is the greatest thing since sliced bread. They take a top of the range trail bike, shorten the stem, run 50% sag, and never fail to enjoy themselves.

The Meta debate is getting a bit tired, some break, some don't, Commencal and Madison are doing their best with the warranty to protect their deserved reputation for designing great bikes. And they have moved factories for 2010.

well not me obviously as I already do it, but you lot. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Once is a warranty, twice and they'd be supplying me with a refund, useable against any brand of bike.

Good that means they are having fun on the bike, like what you're supposed to do. They critique the DH bikes more as that is primarily what they ride (except Billy)

OK - let's kill this one now. It's not something I "keep throwing in", and I don't have anything against Cotic. I was simply drawing attention (on one previous thread) to the statistical anomaly that folk were mentioning lots of Meta frame cracks (from 1,000s of sales) and are yet prepared to ignore that proportionally many more Cotics seemed to be affected.

Some folk seem to have an over-active irony filter.

Bungalistic I know what you mean but it'd be useful if they made a bit more of a critique out of the trail bike reviews as well. Its more useful to find out about some of the characteristics of the bike and the main differences with its rivals. Given who they are aiming the magazine at you would expect all Dirt's reviews to be based on what's the most fun to ride rather than the more pragmatic reviews you get elsewhere.

web-toed-marsdener.....

.....why not play them at their own game, look into where the cracks are occurring and stick some duck tape around those areas.
When people rush to explain to you that your frame will crack, just point to the tape with a wink & tell them you've got it covered.

Admittedly, you might want to check under the tape periodically for actual cracks!
