The profile here:

Seems to be 20km short?

How tough is this, compared to something like the Mary Towneley Loop for example?

Cheers

I dont think any of the events are exactly 100k, but it'll be hard enough, unless you are Nick Craig. Why not enter the event get to the 75k point close to the finish, and see if you find yourself saying "I wish I could do another 25K that wasnt enough" ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, I could do that, but I'd prefer to know before I start whether the 100km is 100km or 80km, it's a pretty big difference. Was also looking for some advice on how hilly it is, in a way I can put in context. I've done Mary Townely recently, so advice along those lines would be useful. Or a GPX of the route, but I can't find one.

Meridas (CRCs?) always seem to be a completely different distance on the day to what's advertised and to the course profile.

The long ones last season seemed to be something like 80-92km, although I didn't ride them all.

I did the 51k loop in the Spring event, really enjoyed it too.

Give it ago, whats the worst that can happen

the climbs out of Buith are all pretty good and long, and if you do the full marathon (billed as 100km but actually shorter, as you say) you'll be riding for between 4 and 8 hours depending on whether you are up the front with nick craig (usually finishes after 3.5 hours to 4 hours) or right at the back with the guy on the quad pulling arrows out as you cycle past them...
seriously though, this will be a great event and the new sponsors at Chain Reaction have really boosted the profile and made them bigger than last season. we;re down there doing free coaching sessions on saturday too if you fancy mastering your manuals before the big ride begins.
