Hello, I can move my knee ok but can feel something like a small M&m in there. You can push it about in the knee. Ok to cycle and the physio and GP have suggested a meniscal cist. Off for a MRI this week. Just wondering of anyone has had one before. This knee is kanckeed as it is so just wondering what they'll find in there. Just wondering if anyolen on here has had something similar.

Thanks,

I have something similar - a big lump came up on the outside of my knee. Consultant said it was synovial fluid from the joint area. Occasionally becomes very hard and more prominent and can be quite painful. I was going to get it operated on privately but in the end decided not too.

I had an arthroscopy about 18 years ago when nothing else figured out the issue (painfull knee which would swell up at random after exercise and last for weeks). Turned out to be a cist, removed it and problem solved (after about 6 months for the arthroscopy swelling to finally go down).

I had knee pain, used my private medical to get a consultation.

Consultant "So this bulge on your outside of your knee?"

Me: Bulge?

Consultant: Did you not notice?

Me: Errr

Turns out after an MRI you could see a bit of my meniscus is making a bid for freedom and a distinct lack of meniscus where there should be.

Advised not to run, play tennis, basketball, squash, swim using breast stroke but to wear cushy midsoled shoes (very on trend).ย  Basically limit twisting and shocks.

The suggestion was to wait on surgery as it's not a magic bullet by any means.

I also switched to flats on the MTB which also made a massive difference.
