[#1547916]

Yesterday riding on the Mendips, one of the pompous ****s in there 4x4 stopped us and made a comment about keep the bridleways, as they are deer culling and it won't be there fault is we got shot.
The season run's November until the end of March.
so dont listen.

I'd tell them they should be more worried that I'm going to 'cull' them...

Rowberrow I assume?

It is actually leased to a shooting club, so it was a plausible lie at least!

😆

It is actually Roe buck season at the moment so it might be true

bastewards. ~I like roe deer.

Best to stay out of their way when there are guns being fired. Farmers around here are seriously tooled-up (have you seen Hot Fuzz?). The factor at Rowberrow gives you a polite warning when they are shooting and mostly ignores you and all the bike tracks the rest of the time.

Chill.

I had a farmer telling me that last year, I replied back to him 'I hope you will miss everytime you shoot' and rode off with him shouting at me, but did respect his order to stay off the land as I didnt want to be shot!

As Mute says, welcome to Roe Buck season... Is it really unacceptable to politely remind you not to ride where you're not allowed, and point out why?

...You've also clearly never heard of Muntiacus reevesi 🙄

'I hope you will miss everytime you shoot'

Are you aware of the damage they do to plantation and native woodland? Its immense and would be worse if they were not culled, since they have no natural predators in the UK.

It's not as if mtbers plough through fields and stuff all the time, is it? I think some of these 'country folk' think we do.

You could thank them for the warning and politely point out that anyone unable to tell the difference between a deer and a biker should return their firearms licence, as should anyone taking careless shots.

I rather agree with Zulu. The correct response was "thanks for letting me know, I'll be careful". 🙂

I swear some of you guys would swear and blind at people trying to warn you of a volcano erupting and covering the trails in molten lava, before riding off muttering about your divine right to ride wherever you damn well please.

Or at least saying thats what you did on the internet ...
