Anyone cone it? It's at the end of August and the website is low on info. Is it similar to Alp D'Huez? 8 am assuming there are les people entered?
bump
its not a megavalanche, its a maxi event. Not done it myself but am considering the flims one in switzerland in oct.
Basically (from what i can make out on the site and from speaking with some people who have done it) theres 400 entries, they go in 4 qualifying heats on the sat, the top 152 (top 38 in each group?) go through to the main event, the rest go in a promo event. Then there are actually 2 races on the sun for each category, one in the morning, one in the afternoon. I guess they either combine your times, or take your best time? dont know about that.
Thats as much as i know mate, bu have sopken to a fair few people who have been and highly rated it. Just need to wangle another 3 day pass to switzerland now after managing to get away for the mega the other week!
Don't think they are as long as the Mega are they? Look pretty cool though.
its a shame we dont have similar events here in the uk
ok i know they do an enduro mega here and we dont have the lifts to transport 1800 people up a mountain but still would be nice to to have to travel halfway accross europe
They are about 30 mins long BUT Are is a little hill compared to the alps (tech though). Here good things though.
yeh may have to try the keilder one next year, really enjoyed the kona mash ups, despite all the problems.
Can you imagine UK health and saftey regs though for something like the mega over here? I just couldn't see it happening. Its one crazy event thats for sure.
The Kielder one was great imo - I did the actual Mega too and it's not the same thing at all, but still great fun and pretty exciting.
What you all want to do is the Stramash in september. Dont be put off by the 'Slopestyle' part, its an enduro as well (2 seperate comps) in the same vein as the above

Hmm that Stramash looks pretty good, might have to give it a go.
So a maxi is similar to a rally, where you have timed stages etc.
Should I also assume that this is not a "gravity" event?
i havent done the event but i've ridden in Åre and its fantastic. Its a great little "alpine" style town and pretty much the whole mountain is open for biking in the summer. the route is quite techy in places and i would guess for mortals it would take around 30 mins. but an intense 30 mins of downhilling. the are loads of bike hire shops in the centre if you dont want to take your bike with you. there's also a couple of ok pubs.
