I currently use a medium cage rear mech but was thinking that when i upgrade whether its worth going with medium cage again as long age are about £10 cheaper usually. i know the different cages or for the teeth of the chainrings but what are the pros/cons of going over to long cage?

Long cage gives you more options but it depends what gearig you will use-if it it's within the range of the middle-use that.
£10 is £10 and the long cage should work fine.
I took my xtr rear mech to bits and adjust the spring tension to take up chainslack-it may have been already done in the factory.

I was just wondering about this too. So, does that mean that if I want to replace my big ring with a bash guard and just run middle and small, that I can keep a long cage? Without affecting performance that is?
