I'm building up a hibred bike: actually, I've bought a new (bigger) frame so I am moving all the parts over from one to the other.

The brakes are mechanical (cable) disk brakes. I need new cables for the new bike. What type of cables should I be using? Are they just the same as normal gear cables, like these:-

(for example)

Thanks

No, brake cables, though some (inc. me) have run gear inners for less friction.

No, like Al said. I got one of the brake cables from the same brand as you linked to from Wiggle and it works fine for the rear brake. Still not as nice as the Nokon cables I have up front though, but a full-length housing worth as much as a pair of hydraulics just didn't seem too clever.

Use standard brake cables and try to keep the outers as short as possible. If you use full length outers you will end up with a spongy feel as the outer compresses.
