What's the difference between Sport and Open? The results spread seems about the same.

Sport is for people who like to think of themselves as racers
Open is for racers who can't win sport

Expert is for people who can race.

If you can't Expert, Sport, if you can't Sport teach PE - or something like that.

+1.

If you have a British Cycling Elite or Expert licence, you can only race Expert Mixed or Open at MM.

this is so wrong surely ? sport normally means racers and open means weekend warriors, or at least thats how it is for xc raceing in British national Point series and other british cycling ranking point events

Team Spanky who i think won open are not races who can't win sport as they ended top 4/5 overall and all hold down full time jobs, they just love riding and train lots...and lots. (they maybe over the hill a bit too?)
I on the other hand like riding lots and train but also enjoy eating too much hence stopping after 14hrs with 10 solo laps and one shagged knee!!

If you have an Expert or Elite rider you can only enter Open or Mixed Expert. However many of the teams in the Sport Men have Masters riders in them (over 30 y/o but usually as fast as Expert/Elite). This should change next year as the MTB categories are being re-jigged by BC
