Is it just me getting old or are Maxxis Tyres really bleedin' expensive all of a sudden? I never would have dreamt of buying Schwalbe as they were ridiculously over-priced but I've just bought a Nobby Nic as They're the same price as an Ignitor now. Bought a UST Nevegal too as it seemed a vaguely reasonable price.

Looking pricet to me. Its like they have the "on trend" at the mo so are exploiting it....

It's not just maxxis, a lot of tyre manufacturers have put the prices up.

You're not alone - I was almost blasted backwards through the door and out across the car park in shock at the price when I bought my last pair.

Not sure how accurate it was, but the chaps behind the counter at JRA reckoned the price of Maxxis had doubled in 3 years.

I've not ridden the MTB since I fitted the new tyres, but I'm hoping for that money they're going pedal up the hills for me.

I read recently that the price of rubber has increased hugely over the last year. It suggested that you can expect car tyres (and bike tyres) to be going up in price significantly.

Agree with the exploitation comment, like Orange they know they have a following and can price themselves accordingly. I just bought a pair of 29er LUST's and they were £50 each, but I like them and trust them so I pay the price. One thing I don't cut corners is on tyres and brakes.

I think there were a bunch of floods in Thailand (?) that wiped out a load of rubber tree plantations and so the price of rubber has gone through the roof. Hopefully the prices will drop again at some point.

Companies set a price at what they feel the market will stand if all is going well expect an increase, if this affects sales then they can reduce the price. This is my simplistic view, the only way to stop it is by not buying from that company for a while.

Suddenly sticking with the bottom of the range tyres with wire beads looks appealing.

I've got other stuff to pay for.
50 quid an end on mountain bike tyres is a joke for the average weekend warrior.

Maxxis are still going up too, the highroller 2's to be £58.99 for the 3C model and £47.99 for the Maxxpro.

60a Minions over 60€ each over here now. So you can possibly understand why I am constantly asking clients to cut out the skids when they use one of my bikes 😕

It's gonna have to be wire bead Conti Verticals from now on. 13€ per tyre 😀
