My current bike (2019 canyon spectral) has maxxis minion dhr2 3c maxx grip exo tr 2.4 WT tyres (27.5) stock. I like them and have found them to be better than any others I have used before.
Same tyres front and back.
They are pretty worn out now so I'd like to replace them like for like but it seems that they don't do them in this maxx grip option for them anymore which are just exo, they all seem to be downhill casing or maxx terra.
Anyone know if this is the case? I'm reluctant to go maxx terra as I've been really please how grippy the current ones are.
Unfortunately, although Maxxis make lots of great tyres, at the moment most of the MaxxGrip ones are DD or DH casing and vice versa - which is really annoying when you want a lighter but stickier tyre for the front and a tougher and heavier but faster and harder wearing one for the back.
Damn, just as I thought. Perhaps I need to change my set up then. I've been so impressed with them tho. Way better than anything I've run previously.
I guess I can get a maxx terra for the rear. Just want something real grippy out front.
DHRII Max Terra on the back, DHF or Assegai in a stickier compound up front.
Assegai is a hell of a grippy tyre.
I've found a 2.3 MaxxTerra Double Down to be fine on the rear, haven't tried the 2.4 but I've read more than once the 2.3 rolls noticably better. Tredz had them in stock last time I looked (29). I usually run either DHF or Shorty on the front, exo Maxxgrip
