2 questions:

1. Can you still get the Ardent in 2.35 for a 26?

2. What other tyre is closest to the Ardent from any manufacturer?

1. There isn't a 2.35 Ardent, there's a 2.25 which is quite a decent size, as big as some 2.3s, and a 2.4, which is pretty big.

2. Pass

1. Mebbe
2. I moved to a Bontrager XR4 2.25 TLR (grippier all round, as big as Ardent 2.35) and a Specialized Ground Control 2.25 (as nippy as Ardent, more gentle slides in the mud)

1. I used to have a 2.35, can't find them anymore and shops don't seem to know. I think Maxxis are reorganizing.

It must have been a while back then, I've been using Ardents for the last four or five years or so and they've always been a (big) 2.25 in that time. Or a 2.4. The Minion DHF came in 2.35, which more like a 2.1 in size, ditto the High Roller. Maybe you had a special limited edition model?

Definitely bollocks.

Can't think of anything else similar, so stick with maxxis anyway, great tyres.

Some anecdotal support for my comment here.

And here.

Hey, I wasn't trying to flame you or anything mate.

It's apparently the Maxxis "Exo" carcass that On One use, and it does seem to have same durability. Maxxis use that carcass on some of the Ardents (I've got one), but the tread pattern is very different.

The Ardent is square edged with centre knobs and rolls fast, intended for dryer conditions. The Smorg is round with knobs all over the shop and more of al all-rounder. The Chunkey Monkey is a full-on all-mountain tyre, again for "intermediate" conditions.

I've got them all on my bikes at the mo and rate them all, for different purposes.

🙂

What, the bit where Shiggy who designed the tyre says:

Shiggy Says:
April 4, 2013 at 3:23 pm
Uses the same casing spec as the Ardent 2.40.

Totally different and much beefier tread with a different design philosophy.

Why would you not buy a 2.25 Ardent which is a pretty big fat casing for the size, close to many 2.35s. If you're going to carry on looking for a 2.35 Ardent you'll be looking for a long time because they don't exist... 😉

I have a 2.35 on the front and a 2.25 on the back - great combo
I'll be upset if I cant get another 2.35.
Mind you front tyres never wear out do they 🙂

26x2.25 EXO was hard to find yesterday.
Went to Next Day Tyres in the end and paid £39
Too expensive really, especially when you realise the HR2 EXO 26x2.3 is only £28

I fancied trying an Ikon this time, but they were even dearer.

A lot of companies do nice fast tread, but stop at 2.1 which is a shame.

I've never seen an Ardent 2.35 and I've been buying them since 2009. Maybe they renamed it the 2.4 - it looks like a great high volume tyre. Quite a bit chunkier than the 2.25 though (in terms of tread depth).

There is nothing like the Ardent.

I've found something similar to the Swampthings that I loved but without the drawbacks of the Swampthings. The Beaver- a sort of cut down Swampting.

Im currently running a Ardent rear, Beaver front. Come winter Beaverx2.

For now though - summer, spring and autumn its a Ardent rear.

I think Ardent as a rear is spot on.

Yep - me too.
I'd like to try an Ikon as well though - just for fun.

Run an Ardent 60a 2.25 folding on the rear after hearing lots of positives on here, nice and fast with plenty of grip. Went up no problems tubeless.

Would defo recommend.

Maybe it was 2.4, but it was definitely bigger than the 2.25. Might try the On-One tyres. Thanks all

I just bought an Ardent 2.4 29er from my LBS for £33. They sold it to me as a Dual Compound but it isn't because they don't exist. Not sure it would make much difference as a rear tyre though. Haven't mounted it yet, these any good in 29er flavour?
