picked up a cheap one from CRC in 2.4 guise, good on the front do we reckon? Or better as a rear?
Im using one on the front 2.25 though. Great from dry trails and all round trail centres.
Works fine on either wheel. Had one on the rear all last year and now on the front too. I've found them to be excellent in all conditions (mud, hardpack, rock, woodwork).
2.4's at both ends, lovely tyres.
Folks tend to use them on the rear. I have a 2.1 front and back on my XC bike - it's my favourite tyre for all condition use. I think the 2.4 is really huge.
Just put 2.25s front and rear.
Big tyres. Space is a bit tight at the back, getting a bit of a buzz off the chainstays when I corner. Might swap it out for a 2.1, but am liking the big volume.
Advantages are about the best all round tyre Maxxis do imo. Great on the front with something else at the rear or as a pair.
Yep, advantage 2.25 F&R for me as well, great tyre all year round - it's just me that needs to learn to ride mud better!
Fond memories of a dry summer with new ADvantages and soft forks learning how to REALLY hit flat rooty corners. Great tyres front and rear I reckon.
2.25 aDvantage front and a 2.25 cross Mark rear for the summer and a pair in the winter!
On eskar's at the mo but will be changing back soooon.
Front - No
Rear - YES!
I wasnt keen on mine so I put a HR back on and Im happy again.
I use the LUST 2.1 both ends of my hardtail and really like them. I didn't get on with them at first but found they improve the lower the pressure you run. I'm 15 st and down to 25 front and 30 rear on flow rims.
The Advantage is my current fave front tyre. (2.1, though.) It works better for me over more trail types than anything else I've tried.
I sometimes change the rear for extreme mud or very dry conditions, but usually run an Advantage on the back too.
i have the 2.4 on front. Its superb in almost all but the worse conditions. Great grip for the natural steep forestry trails around here.
It has a rounder profile than the HR but it still had an unbroken line of stiff edge-knobs. So it has something of the HRs characteristic secure cornering feel, but not as much, i.e. it tips and turns-in faster.
Deffo play with pressures. I typically run 30/35 for my weight and riding style, but they happily drop 5spi for slower speed mud use.
There are a number of compounds available and I typically use 60a folding on the front and 70a wire on the back. The 70a wire is very cheap, harder wearing and being wire bead tends to be more pinch-flat resistant.
I run them both front and back now, moved from nobby nic and they are a brilliant all round tyre. I've used them year round and cant fault them. For the price they really are brilliant.
If they'd make a ust 2.4 I'd be a very happy bunny.
