As in title,I'm 5'7" and 30" inside leg,what size 42cm or 46cm? I've never owned a hardtail,and noone I know has one built up.

I had an XC2 and I had a 50cm - I'm 6 ft. I know the 120 has a very similar geom - my wife is 5'4" and had the 42 so I'd def go for the 46cm myself 🙂

Now you know the size i won't comment on that. But what I will comment on, I got a XC120 last year and I LOVE IT. I am the worlds worst person at describing how the bike reacts (e.g. the steeper head angle gives a ...... ), all I can say is that it feels right, I give it some punishment regularly and it just sucks it up and asks for more 🙂
medium. I'm taller than you and it's not quite right but large definately isn't so should be perfect for you. Lovely little frame
My old XC2 and my new XCPro3 (both best at 100mm) were and are FANTASTIC - love them - I know you'll love the XC120 🙂
