Landed a 2 foot drop slightly sideways and my rear Minion DHR2 3X Exo now has an absolutely ginoromous wobble. At first I thought I'd warped the rim but it's perfectly true.

Looking at it a bit more closely it seems the kevlar(?) cord has shifted within the bead on one side. I've tried to fix it by moving the cord (imagine gathering curtains) but it's ****ed ๐Ÿ˜•

Has anyone come across this before and is there a fix? There's loads of tread left on the tyre so I'll be annoyed if I have to bin it.

Quite a few reports on inter web of this happening with Maxis tyres....

If you've warped it, it's good for the bin, regardless of brand. You could pump it up really hard to reduce the wobble a bit, but then it's not much use as a decent tyre.

Come across it & can generally do it to a rear tyre quite easily, if you have slightly too low pressure and square off/cuttie a berm too hard, they usually end up with a vicious wobble.

Happened to Schwalbe, Maxxis & Conti tyres, I don't discriminate ๐Ÿ™‚

4rse!

I do run low-ish pressures (24psi) but that's kind of the advantage of tubeless isn't it...

Maybe Specialized tyres are the answer, or have you just not tried those yet?!

They are made by CST who make Maxxis, so I wouldn't expect anything any different.

24 is low for the back IMO, unless you are a featherweight.

I've done this twice, both times running too low pressure on the rear. 13st I now know I need to run minimum 28psi.
Expensive lesson!

I'm 10st and ride fairly light.

Hey ho, shame as it's the best rear tyre I've had!

I did this to a minion SS recently, took it back to Evans who took it back to Maxxis who replaced it.. Send it back before binning it!

Well bu*ger me I managed to fix it!

Couldn't stand another second of Strictly so grabbed the tyre out of the bin and had another go. By pinching the bead tightly (mole grips might've been easier in hindsight) and moving the kevlar bead equally on both sides of the tyre back and forth a bit, then pinching another section of bead and repeating every 10cm or so as I went around the tyre, it's almost perfect. Took an hour or so. Tiny wobble but I can live with that.

Quite chuffed tbh ๐Ÿ˜€

I did contact Maxxis who (very politely) said speak to the shop. I bought mine from Alltricks so didn't bother pursuing

Alltricks support is pretty good - english support, just log into the site. Wouldn't write them off at all
