Looking at getting a decent pair of MTB shoes for use on a road bike.

(I'm convinced that any loss of power transfer is worth for the benefit being to able to walk properly.)

Wiggle doing a good deal on Mavic shoes at the moment with some proper sizes in stock.

I normally wear a UK 11 or a 45/46 in trainers, however my Diadora road shoes come up really small, they are a 48 and they fit okay, not ultra tight with thin socks.

Do I need to up the sizes or are the Mavics closer to "real" shoe sizes?

Or should I take the hit and pay the full LBS prices and make sure what I get fits?

I have Switchbacks and the size is as a normal shoe for me (11) and not narrow fitting.
PS Best shoes I've had so far.

I'm normally a 9.5 but ended up with an 10.5 Mavic Tempo.

Half a size over 'normal' trainer size.

I use some Mavic Alpine's on my road bike at the moment, find them very comfy for the job. Just checked and mine are a 43 which matches other people comments on needing to size up a little.

I have Mavic Razors.

They were the only shoe that was really comfy, they also got top marks in one of the recent mag reviews where they looked at 20+ shoes.

I'm generally a size 9, had to get a 10 in the Mavics. Mainl for the ratchet strap across the top of my foot.

Depressingly I had to get an XL Helly Hansen jersey the other day to... I think they do there sizing on height rather than waist size!!! But that's another story.

I went for Alpine's and just got the normal size I go for. Definitely not narrow like Shimano and similar to the Specialized Taho, however the Spesh's felt quite narrow compeared to my circa 2008 BG Comps.

I found the razors on the narrow side for me, but I have got wide feet, so kind of figures! I wear mine to commute in and find them a good compromise between comfy and stiff, look good too which helps 😀

I'm a 47 shimano, 46 in Specialized and have bought a pair of Mavic Fury in a 46 but they're half a size too small for me so I reckon about the size you're after as I'm 11.5-12 in trainers. I paid £225 for them and used only once but would sell for £100 posted if any use? dc30 At fsmail.net
