Im randomly paranoid that my upgraded wheelset (en521 with pro2 hubs) are making things slower. ive not really noticed it but i have Bontrager duster wheels that are lighter and going to waste? They need a new rear hub as the deore is buggered.
Does anybody think it is worth rebuilding with a new hub and using these instead of my EN521's, or is the small amount of weight nothing to worry about? i ride a Gf Roscoe and ride typical AM conditions such as Rocky trail centres and local CX.
Or should i just buy lighter tyres? I dont race so i gues is should MTFU.
I don't find the en521's slowed me down though my other wheelset is the ex721's!!
As a rule rotational sprung weight is about the worst so anything saved there is great, however they are fairly bombproof so just mtfu pedal harder and hit stuff
I doubt they are, I used to use them for XC riding and switched to some Stans Flow rims and couldnt really tell much difference. On a road bike lighter wheels are much more noticeable I reckon. The key is in the tyres and tubes really, what are you using?
I have some EN521's on my 145mm bike. I replaced the lighter 719's as I found them a little light for really high speed stuff but my local regular rides usually take in a Scottish downhill venue so I need a tough build. Can't really tell much difference just a little extra drag, I feel much more confident to hit stuff at top speed and tyres are way easier to fit! Everyone raves about how much better/lighter Stans flows are and if I was buying a Hope Hoop set I would get Stans flows/proII but as I just needed new rims the 521s were almost half the price.
That said I have seen a couple of Stans Flows cracked in half, something I haven't personally seen with the stronger Mavics but most people say they are bombproof.
They probably feel slower, but if you timed it they're probably not.
I've got them on my Pitch, can't think of anything better TBH, Stans might me lighter, but I took the Mavic's for a weeks DH riding and they outlated my body which broke after 3 days.
I've got lighter wheelsets on other bikes and although they feel like they accelerate quicker, the EN521's have far fewer dints in them and stay true.
omg
The responses I wanted. I use xr4s and think they are great, just about to try a conti baron to see me through the mud season.
Thanks all. Bonty dusters for sale in that case.
I actually drove over a 521 and the only thing damaged was the disk. Awsome,
Should I spend more and buy folding lighter tyres then rather than the wire cheap versions.
