Just wondering if anyone had managed to convert these with just stans yellow tape and valves? or are full on rimstrips required?

How about with BMX inner tubes?
Thats how I've done mine.
I used Schwable ones, as they have a removable core which makes inflation easier, cost about a fiver for each wheel.
