righty as the crossmax are quite expensive, even with a hefty discount, what exactly is the difference between these two models?
looking at the blurb on the site there is a 60gram weigh saving from st to crosstrail, so neither here nor there!!! the price doesnt reflect the saving either at almost double the RRP!
so it looks like the crosstrail is full UST, has the same rim width, weighs in at 1650 grams and has different spokes (steel compared to zircal?!?!)
the crosstrail will knock off nearly 300 grams ~ of weight from the wheels which is a fair chunk
it also appears that the new 2013 crosstrail also has the new freehub which is the same as the ST
ok the crossmax look a bit better, but seriously struggling to see any difference apart from spokes and 60gram weight saving?
help!
i've got both.
crosstrail hub is louder (might need lube though!!), marginal weight differance, crossmax st looks better.
cheers millhouse - so no real world differences then? same sort of feel, repsonsiveness, build quality etc?
crossmax does look better, but then the crosstrail loosk a million times better than a pro2/flow wheelset
not bothered about hub noise, as i have a pro2 at moment! weight difference is 60grams
im struggling to see any other phyiscal differences, even the 2013 crosstrail has the newer/improved/better hub too
If i was buying again, for the ~£200 difference i'd go for crosstrails. or crossmax SX for the wider (21mm) rim.
cheers bud - one last quickie, are the internal rim widths the same?
as far as i know, yeah. 19mm

thanks millhouse! topman!
seems a no brainer really to get the crosstrails - still look a good package, probably a little less stiff due to the spokes, but im sure they will be as stiff as my old xm819 mavic rims, and probably not much different to the flows - also saving 350 grams or there abouts so should feel a little better climbing!
well a friend borrowed the c456 that the crosstrails are on and properly bounced the rear on a kerb with a VERY bad bunnyhop and there's not a sign of it with it being out of true so they are fairly strong 😆
