[#2416233]

A pair of these caught my eye today in a shop, and they were prepared to do a very good deal.

Any opinions on the 2011 ones or indeed other years ones for general trail riding and the like?

What are they like on the reliability side of things too?

Much maintenance required?

Anything comparable?

Had my 2010 ones just over a year now. Great wheels. No reliability issues.

Great wheelset. Have some from 2003, still going strong (well with some spoke changes and new freehub). Have two other sets and can't fault them (2009's)

Hub service takes 5 mins.

I have a 2010 set. Had zero probes at all, using them as my 24 hour race wheels as light and solid. Can handle the heavy landings and are tubeless ready which makes life really easy. Recommended.

Sorry for the slight hijack, I've just seen some bargain 2009 STs. The magazine reviews I've seen mention a slow reacting freehub. Could you comment on this when responding to the OP. Thanks!

Bought a second hand set this time last year and have used them a lot.
They have been really good.
Just serviced them (more for peace of mind, they were running fine)and replaced the pawls in the freewheel + bearings while I had them apart.
Easy to work on and the bearings were cheap and easy to get a hold of.

Next question, are they worth the extra dollar over the 2011 Crosstrails?

The Cross trails aren't much heavier and still have the same machined bits on the rim, from what I can see the weight gains are in the hub

What's a slow reacting freehub?

It needs to turn through a load a degrees before it engages.

Oh right . Never noticed any thing like that. Sounds a bit strange.
You would think it would work or not.
The inside of the free hub body has lots of ramps ,so I can't imagine much delay before it would drive.

'Load' is probably an exaggeration! Sounds like it isn't noticeable, maybe it is to racers when every second counts!
