just about to build up a set of and would like to know if the nipple inserts:
1 - come with the rim
2 - are a standard size
3 - if answer to 1 is NO, where can i get them

The rim inserts come with the rim, you'll need the correct tool for them, they can use normal nipples (supplied with spokes), although slightly longer than normal can be beneficial for spoke key clearance but not essential.

2. yes in that mavic have used them for 12 years in all UST rims (D3.1, X3.1, XM819 and EX823, but no in that it's a bespoke mavic part with a left hand weird pits thread

do use some sort of thread lock between the inserts and the rims - more to stop corrosion between the two than anything else - the inserts are a bugger to get out otherwise.
