[#4163445]

I have some z1 wedge forks but from what i have researched cannot change the travel on them, they are 120mm but need either 80 or 100mm for my HT frame. Does anyone know what they are worth if i sold them?

They are 130mm

You will be able to change the travel on them if you are preapred to bodge slightly.

Are they for a dirt jump bike?

Nope, they were originally but sold the frame a few years back. Built up my HT and put them on as i had them, but frame is for 80/100mm travel. Mainly use it for road rides/commuting and trails when i decide not to use my Heckler.

Yeh,

Take em apart and make 2 spacers 30mm long out of the end of a bit of handlebar.

Put these in the bottom of the forks under the cartridges (above the rebound spring)

Put em back together - jobs a goodun.

The only issue is you'll need to compress the spring to fit the top caps on, so they'll be preloaded more - hence they'll be stiffer. Ideal for a jump bike, maybe not for an xc hardtail.

Interesting, may well give that a go ๐Ÿ™‚

Prefer a stiffer fork anyway, may well be better than my overly extended travel i have now

Thanks

If you search on the internet (probably on mtbr or pink bike) there'll be some detailed instructions on how to do it.

If they are too stiff, you could just find some cheap 100mm travel springs and chuck them in instead.

Ignore my earlier reply anyway, I couldnt remember the exact details. The spacer goes under the top out spring. Theres a thread below.

Brilliant, thanks for that. I had searched but came up with reviews and loads about other Z series forks but didn't see anything about the wedge.

Will do this i think ๐Ÿ™‚

Worth a shot. I did my Z1 freerides, the springs were very stiff anyway so it only really worked to reduce them by 10mm rather than 30mm.

I got some lighter 100mm springs later on and reduced them down to 100mm.

Also, I cant remember what wedges are like, but if you find they have two springs and are far to stiff, you can try running them with just a spring in one side.
