I know we've had this conversation before. And I've done a quick search but I reckon most of it was on the old forum.
Some people reckon clockwise is the best way to do it, others say anti is better. So what are the pros and cons of each? For reference we'll be starting from either Waterfoot or Healey Dell.
While we're on the subject, has anyone got a GPX file for the route? (Sorry if this is a hijack)
as I am 100 ft from it, clockwise from waterfoot
Ditto clockwise and start from Waterfoot, gets the gates out of the way early doors and the more exposed sections up towards Widdop. Unfortunately the mountain rescue have decided to run this year's challenge anti-clockwise so that should interresting, 5 minutes in and pulling up the hill to Cowpe Low ๐
Chatsworth
you got mail.
Clockwise makes it all ridable (although I have never managed the climb up to Summit) Start from Healey Dell get Rooley Moor road out of the way early on, then section with lots of gates while still fresh.
Anticlockwise will result in a few unridable uphills for all but the most talented/fit
we usually ride it clockwise but have done anti- once. Clockwise good.
always starting at Blackshaw Head. Lovely section of moorland to finish with
Stumpyjon, many thanks. Received and read. Think I'll probably start it from Hurstwood, which is easy to get to for me. Clockwise looks best.
Did it clockwise today starting from Healey Dell. The idea being to get the RMR (which I don't like one bit) out of the way early.
Really enjoyed the ride. Tired now. Off to pub.
Clockwise from the Ram Inn at Holme chapel has worked for me the 2 times I have done it the thought of 3 pints of lovely beer gets me the last 10 miles
