[Closed] Marple / Romiley / Compstall: lost pump

I had a puncture on wednesday evening on the trail running off Werneth Low into Etherow park. Many many thanks to the two groups of riders who loaned me some tyre levers: first group to remove the tyre, second to refit it - I was on a borrowed bike and didn't realise that the tyres would be so hard to remove from tubeless tyres, nor that I didn;t have levers in that bag

Anyway, I digress - the problem is that when I went out yesterday I discovered that my pump was not in my bag, I can only assume that I simply forgot to put it back in once I'd finally got the tyre back on, inflated the tube and put the wheel back on (as it's a singlespeed it's a tad more complicated than gears and I was already running very late as this was my commute home

Anyway, if anyone has found a Topeak Mountain Morph in the compstall area, I'd be grateful to see it back, it's more or less new

Would that be the path after Beacom Farm..?

I'll keep an eye out, not that I ever ride down it ๐Ÿ˜‰

That's the one! In 5 years of riding that trail I've never seen another soul on it, not even a walker, then on the night I puncture I meet two guys coming down on Kona DH bikes, then a group of 5 using it as a climb!

I can't believe that you weren't carrying enough money to pay someone to go back and look for it for you... after my recent pedal folly I always carry enough in cash to buy a complete new bike plus a gold ingot as back-up. Anyway, let that be a lesson to you, young man. If I find myself out that way I'll keep an eyelid batted for you regardless xxx

I will be going down that exact trail tomorrow morning so will have a look for you.

Funnily enough I always assumed I was pretty much the only one that went down there too, never see anyone else.

Sadly, although I've never met anyone else on the trail, I know others use it as in the past twelve months the braking bumps have appeared. I've no idea why, it's not really a trail where you need to brake that much!

Hi nbt, sorry no luck, I did keep an eye out but didn't see it.

Inevitably after saying I never see anyone down there I had to stop twice to let two lots of people past ๐Ÿ™„

At least you have an excuse to buy a shiny new pump though eh?

Cheers for looking. Annoyingly I only bought that pump a couple of months ago, the old one gave up the ghost just when someone posted that cyclesurgery were doing 40% off topeak on their timeout tuesdays.

No worries.

Just out of curiosity, are there any other trails worth looking at near there?

I ride from South Manchester so usually just use that area as part of my local loop as I can get a climb and descent in, climbing from Haughton Dale up past the Hare and Hounds pub and then down that muddy descent that feels a bit like a 'chute' down from Needham Farm (I think).

It gets really muddy in the winter though so was wondering if there are any alternatives? I think I saw a chap on youtube descending the other side of Werneth down to Mottram but it didn't look as good really, might give it a try though.

From Haughton Dale we follow the transpennine trail through hyde then up Green lane to Werneth Low. It's not a brilliant descent, as a climb it's testing as it's steep and loose, but it's off road. You can use Beacom Lane through Beacom farm but that's been surfaced for vehicles. Not explored much round there TBH but the other trails I've walked along haven't looked like great riding.

How do you get up the top from Haughton Dale? Might be worth me having a look, then it's in the bag for something different

Ah right, I leave Haughton Dale and pick up the canal and then ride through a field past a massive old unused factory to pick up this bridleway here to climb to the top of Werneth Low:

http://tinyurl.com/cd394zj

It can be picked up off Hillside Road and when at the top I turn right through Birches Farm and then there's some singletrack that follows Werneth Low Road all the way to the top.

Off out in a sec but let me know if you want a more detailed explanation and I'll update later.Your way sounds better though so I'll probably give that a try next time.

Like you say, I haven't really spied anything else that looks great.

I also do a loop out from Sth Mcr. TPT from Stockport, Green lane as per NBT. Over Werneth Low. Brabyns Park, Peak Canal. Cheeky down into Chadkirk then back end of Woodbank Park, Vernon Park, Brinnington tunnel and TPT home to Heaton Mersey.

Good to know other riders may be around if I fall off!!

If you come out with Marple riders one night I'll show you a lovely little excursion you can add into that loop ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers Julian...

...will keep an eye on the Yahoo group.

I have extended it via Stirrup Benches, Grid Lane, Mellor Moor, Golf Club descent to Strines Station, Roman Lakes...but something interesting and a a fair bit less added time would be great ๐Ÿ™‚ clues welcomed ๐Ÿ˜‰
