Had a nasty sound coming from my shock so took it off the bike & gave it a full service. When putting it back in i realised that there is nothing like a washer between the (lower)shock bushings and the frame mounts. It appears the bushings/shock mounts butt up against each other with no intervening part, is this correct?
There is the DU bush, the part that goes through the DU bush in a press fit arrangement, then two narrow rubber rings and the aluminium mount bushes, then the frame mounts. Seems odd to me for some reason & the paint on the frame mounts is worn away.
Shock now serviced so that isn't where the noise is coming from.
Yes, one piece of the bush sits directly on frame, retaining bolt then holds it fairly tightly (about 10Nm?) in place against the inner surfaces of the frame. The shock then pivots on the bush/du bush/outer bush componants.
Cheers, my old mount vision is like that, but i just felt i was missing something. Now, to find out what IS making that grinding noise..
