[#12425012]

Off to look at a Marin Nicasio RC tonight as a bit of a away from home exercise/shopper/pub bike. Was looking at something £50 mark (maybe £100) but seen this at about £300 and it looks nice... a couple of years old vs something either really pants or 20 year old. I'm also a fan of IHG which helps and it's steel...

Any reason not to go for it?

Check the BB - a friend and myself have Marin's and neither has/had a drain hole. They do fill with water and eat BB's.

Thanks, all seemed good on that front. It's hardly been used by the looks of it.

Looks like a very similar frame + forks to my old Marin Four Corners. If so it will be very comfy but like a lead weight. Seems decent for the price.

Saying that, if you go retro then £300 buys a very nice old bike that will be lighter and have much better parts.

My wife has one as a town bike and it's really nice to ride. It's essentially a gravel bike frame with really swept back bars so feels very very short. We actually changed the bars to on-one OG bars which feel much nicer. Weighs a fair bit. I really enjoy riding it. Nice fat 47 tyres, thumbshifter actuated IHG, it's a lot of fun. Not sure I'd fancy it as a bike for getting exercise, but as a bike for transport it is spot on.

Well bought now. Will do the job for me as a casual pub bike, got mountains etc at home so this is more about transport than exercise. Had a fun trip around last night for a casual ride need to make use of the PDW Takeout basket at some point as that was thrown in (£85 accessory! :-O).
It fit the bill as it was local/walking distance. I don't have a car here and this was in the town/village next to me, the guy was also nice enough to meet me part way as I've twisted my ankle...

Yeah I had a look at that around a month ago, good deal and in great nick. Just not aggressive enough for me, especially with the swept back bars. Hope you enjoy it.

Yea, it wouldn't be my choice for anything more than gnarmac or canal path. Ideally for me to pick up a few beers.
I'm ok with alt bars, got On-One OGs on my MTB due to knackered wrist.
