I'm at a work thing in Manchester on Friday and due to finish early afternoon. I'm thinking about taking the opportunity to cycle home, probably using Sustrans Route 66. It's all good up until Brighouse but then seems to go a bit crazy.

I'll be using my CdF with cross tyres on so traffic free is preferable. Does anyone have any tips to link up and end up either in Shipley or Leeds. From there I'll have to travel on the roads.

I can get you from Brighouse to Drighlington, good portion off road with reasonably quiet linking bits. PM with an email and I'll send you a GPX file. From Drig you could fly straight down the A62 into Leeds, or you could nip down the A58 and pick up the bridleways in Fulneck woods and head towards Pudsey to pick up the cycle superhighway into Leeds.

I rode back from Manchester last autumn.
followed the canal via Rochdale, todmorden, hebbers, mirfield, Dewsbury, wakefield, Stanley, methley to rothwell.

was pretty good. and apart from 4 miles from Brighouse to cooper bridge it was traffic free.

Have you tried asking Google Maps? It can give some quite good routes.

Brighouse to Cooper Bridge can also be done more or less traffic free if you're ok with a bit of cheeky 🙂

As in you can filter the route for cycling in the same way as you can switch between car and public transport routing.

Yes. My neighbour cycled from Blackburn to Cornwall and back for a wedding using Google Maps. He just plugged an earphone into his phone, turned off the screen and stuck it in his pocket then followed the instructions. Said it took him along some delightful routes he would never have found just by using a map.

Take the green line down the canal to mirfield...
