To Central Park for lunch after a morning in the utterly brilliant Metropolitan Museum. Sandwich and a bucket of ice tea, sitting watching the MAMILs go by.
Two things struck me.
First, I have never seen such a cavalcade of road porn anywhere outside of a grand tour peloton! If the numbers are anything to go by, the owners of Serotta, Seven and Cervelo have already retired to hollowed out volcanoes. Insanely large numbers of insanely high end road bikes.
Secondly, almost all of them were too small for the rider. They all looked really cramped up, with not enough extension on the stroke, and most had massive stacks under their stems and rising stem angles to give a more upright position.
Now, my question is, why drop that kind of cash on a bike that clearly doesn't fit you (in terms of size), as well as one that doesn't suit your riding (in terms of position)?
Are the bike shops of NY milking this, just selling whatever they have to an uber-Fred? Or are these Freds just demanding the wrong bikes?* I'm pretty sure I've never seen such a high number of wrongly fitted bikes anywhere else! The London MAMILs seem to get it right.

On a related point, has anyone else noticed the number of women on the beach here in Rio that dont take as much care with their bikini line as their namesake trim might suggest?
