The popular “Making Tracks” mountain bike event on Alyth Hill takes place at the end of this month on Sunday, September 29.
Featuring mountain bike orienteering, an under 17s dual slalom competition and free bike skills courses, and marked trails on Alyth Hill the third such annual event looks set to be a great success.
In previous years the all day event has seen participants clock up a combined distance of nearly 1000km along the trails through the new Alyth Community Woodland, which is on Forestry Commission land adjacent to the town.
Making Tracks is organised by Alyth Hill Users Group (AHUG), which runs the community woodland area.
Chair of AHUG, Marian Bruce explained: “When we asked the people of Alyth what they wanted on the site, bike trails were very high on the list."
“We are trying to build a pump track, a forest trail and a skills loop with built features such as table-tops and berms in the community woodland are and have secured much 70% of the funding to enable us to do this."
“In the meantime though, Making Tracks gives riders of all ages a chance to get together, have fun, ride natural trails and support the development of purpose built mountain bike trails on Alyth Hill at Alyth Community Woodland.”
The family friendly day is billed as a “true grass roots mountain biking event” and as well as the trail riding itself will also feature a barbeque, bike-powered smoothies, Dr Bike and a range of bikes available for people to try out Strider Balance Bikes to try.
The event and Registration for the mountain bike orienteering event takes place starts at 10am, with the orienteering itself getting underway at 11am.
The dual slalom competition takes place from 1pm to 2pm. Parking is at the Den of Alyth Car Park, Bamff Road, Alyth and the event village is situated just off the Bamff Road 200m further on (at a different site from previous years). For more information go to the website at www.ahug.org.uk
